But am interested in trading up. I don't need all regions and I'm cheap.

I would suggest you google "Secrets of Home Theatre", on that site you will find test results of players from 2000 forward with suggested list pricing.

They also have a wealth on on line HT info.

Scott, the Toshiba 3960 scored the best at Hometheaterhifi.com among the inexpensive DVD players.
