I'm curious if anyone can comment on the acoustical quality of the AR Stature series speakers. In my hunt for under $500 towers I have come up with a couple of different options (HTD, Phase Tech, PSB,). No one locally has the stature series speakers for me to listen too... though I did listen to some of their really expensive speaker (High res series, AR-1 and AR3's) and came away with a much better respect for the AR name. The S50's have all the features I'm looking for... and spec wise seem pretty good (though I think their numbers might be a little over-inflated).
Features I was looking for (Under the $500 price tag)
-Soft Dome Tweeters (I still havent found a metal domed tweeter I can listen too for hours... there are some good ones though)
    -Bi-Wireable
-Full Range towers capable down into the 40's
    -Black
-Must have a good matching bookshelf of diminuative stature, would prefer front ported or acoustic suspension
Any and all comments on the Stature line of speakers would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Jin,

You might want to check the Acoustic Research Hi-Res AR11's. They can be had for $400 and meet your requirements except that it has a titanium dome tweeter. I've had these speakers for 3 months and been very impressed with the overall sound for home theater (I listen to very little music). Let me know if you have any questions, Joe.

    Jin,
After hearing the AR1's you won't want the Performance or
Stature Series.. Those are both lines meant to be sold to
J6P's in Best Buy and Circuit City.
How about this... go to www.bestpriceaudiovideo.com and get
    a pair of AR9's for $550.00 + $83.00 Shipping. I know it's
a little more than you wanted to spend but you are getting
a top of the line set of towers that have the same drivers
as the AR1's you auditioned. (The AR9's have the same mids
and tweeter as the AR1 but the AR1 has a 15" sub where as
    the AR9 has a 10" and plays down to 32Hz @ 100 Decibels)
I have the AR9's and I wouldn't trade them for another
acoustic suspension speaker. I am very satisfied.

I have a pair of Stature S50s as my mains right now, and they are fairly good performers. They're very clear, and have no problems reproducing anything as far as I've been able to tell. Even the bass (although not very loud) does go very low.
One of the problems with them though, is that they have a fairly limited soundstage, they're very directional.
Otherwise, I don't have any complaints with them except that they're pretty big thin towers [IMG]

What about the AR-11's? They can be had for even cheaper then the S50's. They are the bottom rung of the High-Res line.

    Jin,

Save up for another month or two and just buy the AR9's.

Or save up a few more months and buy the AR5's if you want

internaly powered sub woof's. I wouldn't buy the bottom of

the rung Hi-Res line when the price diffrence is so close.

    Jin,

The link you provided is where I bought my AR11's, their shipping charges are very reasonable. I'm not sure about the differences between the AR11 and AR9 except the AR9 has a 10" woofer vs. the 8" in the AR11. I would bet you would be happy with either. The Hi-Res line also has very nice sounding center channels and bookshelf speakers at low prices, in IMO. Joe

    Joseph,

The AR9 uses 2 5.25" Mids where as the AR11's only have a

    single 5.25" mid.

P.S I am sure that the AR11 sounds awesome as do the rest of

the High Res Series. So if you are not willing to spend the

extra cash on the 9's or 5's that's understandable. The 11's

    will sound great.

Main reason I have been looking at the Status line is... the tweeter (if oyu can beleive that). Even with the AR-1 I I found it to be a smidge on the bright side... though the Titanium tweet they use is a lot better the most of the metalic domed tweets I've listened too. I have yet to find a metalic-domed tweeter that I would spend the rest of my life with... hence the interest in the S50's. Plus.. the S50 looks a lot better then the High res line [IMG]

    Jin,

See that's where we differ. Sound is naturaly a very subjective

matter and to me the Stature and Performance Series sound

lifeless and dull. The metal mids and the titanium tweeter

used on the Hi-Res line lend themselves to reproducing vocals

and stringed or wind instruments vividly. And that's what I

love about them. I can understand not everyone likes a bright

    sounding speaker.

And IMHO the Hi-Res Series looks better (Again, Subjective)
