What is the point of having MULTICHANNEL input if there's a DIGITAL INPUT? Are they different or the same? I can't seem to tell.

    Thanks

the multichannel input is typically used for one of two reasons:

    1. your receiver does not have dd/dts decoding capability. in that case, you'll have to utilize the dvd player's on-board decoder. the dvd player must output the dd/dts encoded signal via the 5.1 outputs, which then connect to the multi-channel input on your receiver

    2. you are utilizing one of the hi-resolution cd formats (dvd-a/sacd). because of copyright issues, those cd players cannot output their signal via a digital connection. again, the 5.1 channel outputs must be utilized...connecting to the multi-channel input on the receiver.

the digital input is usually used to connect the audio portion of the dvd player. that way, the receiver (and not the dvd player) does the dd/dts decoding.

    hope that helps...

    Easy answer:

Coyxial is better, because you probably already have some usable cable lying around.
