I recently had the oportunity to pick up both of the widescreen lds and after thinking about it decided to go with justTEMPLE OF DOOM. I used to think LAST CRUSADE was the better of the 2 but I guess I've changed my mind over the years.
While I think both films are flawed (but enjoyable) and pale in comparison to RAIDERS I guess I have more problems with LAST CRUSADE .
    1. River Phoenix was a talented actor but just did not work for me as a young Indy.
    2. I hated the whole opening sequence. For me it ruined all of the mystery behind Indy (whip, hat, fear of snakes, scar on chin, etc.) by cramming it all in on a bad Keystone cops homage.
    3. I also think that the film's climax was weak.
While TEMPLE OF DOOM is far from perfect I guess I prefer it for it's darker tone.
So which of them do you prefer and why?

I prefer Last Crusade. I don't share your concerns above, and love the interaction between Indy & his father.

Temple of Doom is OK, but the whole thing gets a bit bogged down for my taste.

I definitely prefer TEMPLE OF DOOM. LAST CRUSADE is a good film because of the interaction between Indy and his father but the action sequences lack energy and intensity. TOD has some of the most amazing action setpieces in film history, especially the mine car chase and the sequence on the bridge. Plus all the homages to great old films like GUNGA DIN...the nods to DRUMS OF FU MANCHU and other serial cliffhangers of the past...TOD is one of the best action pictures ever made. RAIDERS, of course, is the best of them all but TOD is very close.

I'm one of the few who loves Temple of Doom, but I still have to give the nod to The Last Crusade. The dynamic between Ford and Connery prevented the movie from being a total rehash of Raiders. And I saw it many, many times as kid, so there's a nostalgia factor there.

I'll have to go with Temple of Doom for those great action sequences.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
The tiebreaker is definitely Sean Connery.

Tough, but I'll go The Temple Of Doom, why so many people hate it I don't understand, I definitely like it better than Raiders & Last Crusade, simply because of the Action sequences.

I prefer Last Crusade. The whole "Grail Legend" , plus Connery, some Nazi's, tanks and guns... a winner in my book.

Temple of Doom was okay... but I prefer my Indy's in a lighter mood.

Crusade for me.. I can't make it through the Temple of Doom.. Puts me right to sleep..

    Of course, nothing beats Raiders.

I never liked the opening sequence for Last Crusade either. But in comparison to the Temple of Doom. Last Crusade was actually a good movie.

Temple of Doom was the worst of the 3. It had a whiney annoying woman as a supporting actress. The film it's self was way off the trilogy. As the other 2 films were about Christian artifacts. Temple of Doom was more of a darker black magic film.

The Last Crusade is my favorite of all the 3. For a few reason. 1, a newer film. 2, Sean Connery. 3, Elsa was hot!

However, I do wish they would have done someting different with the opening sequence. I agree, it wasn't too good. Raiders also kicks some major a**. I liked the Temple of Doom, but it was the worst of the trilogy and I usually skip over it unless I haven't seen it in a while.

This post is too funny though. As I watched all three movies today before I ever saw this thread.

    Last Crusade in a landslide...

Come on, in TOD, Indy's enemies are "ohm-ohm-shee-by, ohm-ohm-shee-by" and so on. In TLC, they are Nazi's. I also agree that Steven Spielberg's wife was WAY too over the top annoying in TOD.

I prefer the "religious" artifacts over the shankara stones any day of the week. If Indy 4 ever happens, I hope it is a religious aritifact...it makes it more "real" since these things do/did exist rather than being a fictional "magic stone."

    The Last Crusade

While I didn't hate TOD by any means, I just enjoyed TLC a lot more.

Last Crusade because the chemistry between Ford and Connery really MADE the film! [IMG]

I agree with JimK. And Sean Connery was an annoying wuss in this movie. All he did was get in the way of Indy. He should have played the part more macho so Indy growing up would have learned his bravery. The way Connery is in this movie they could have got Rip Taylor.

Last Crusade, although the opening act in Temple of Doom was by far the best sequence in the trilogy, IMHO.
