Anyone else pumped about this show?
I find it much more enjoyable and laid back than the Oscars!
Go Peter Dinklage and Sofie Coppola!!!!

Agreed on that; at last year's awards, presenters burst into song when introducing the Best Picture nominees, Derek Luke (winning for Antwone Fisher) brought his wife up onstage, and when Emily Mortimer won for Walking and Talking, her husband Alessandro Nivola accepted her award for her and thanked the audience for liking her full-frontal scene. Hardly things you would see at the stuffy Oscars. [IMG]

And on top of that, this is one of the few award shows that are genuinely, insanely hard to correctly guess who will win, since the nominees are a diverse lot and most have an equal shot at getting the award.

I'm pulling for Agnes Bruckner to win Best Female Lead (Blue Car), Peter Saarsgard for Supporting Male (Shattered Glass) and American Splendor to take home Best Picture.

Show is broadcasting live on IFC in 10 minutes!

Great show as usual. The highlights for me:

--Jennifer Aniston and Mike White's onstage banter
--The singalongs were cute as always, especially the one for In America
--Jim Sheridan's acceptance speech...funny and sweet
--Waters' rant on people's reluctance towards foreign films: "'Oh, I'm not seeing foreign films, they have subtitles!' These people deserve to die." Truer words have never been spoken, John
--Jake Gyllenhaal's and Emily Mortimer's reasoning of why home screeners are important. [IMG]

    Great show!

Gotta love John Waters' closer - "Next time you go to a movie and they show a commercial, BOO!"

Not much love for my personal favorite underdogs - Raising Victor Vargas and American Splendor - but I was tickled to see Whale Rider take a prize. I have no fuss with LiT wins - it's a wonderful movie.

The luckiest person under the tent tonight? Stuart Townsend. Lucky Bastard. [IMG] Charlize looked as good as ever. The scary thing is, she'll look even better tonight.

Wishing death upon people who don't like subtitled movies?

I'd like to know his thoughts on coming to these award shows especially since LOTR's the juggernaut this year. If you don't remember, he was originally cast to play Aragorn but was subsequently fired. I wonder if the situation's cooled down between him and LOTR since then.

I enjoyed John Waters opening monologue about being responsible for rampant piracy of Pieces of April, especially when Jack Valenti came out, handcuffed him, and hauled him away. [IMG]

In the middle of watching yesterday's Independent Spirit Awards.
This is my third year in a row to see the awards program and it is one of the most entertaining shows on TV.

I didn't like the host as much as the previous ones.

Congrats to The Wrestler for all the awards.
