Anyone here familiar with indie canadian bands? I recently fell victim to the 'sleeman' ad on the radio (102.1) and downloaded some of the tunes that i heard. Surprisingly, i really liked what i heard. Hennessey (www.hennessey.com) and Shifty (www.shiftymusic.com) really caught my attention. I'm just wondering whether any other people here are familiar with other indie canadian bands?

I love Cub (now broken up) and Bob Wiseman (former member of Blue Rodeo, hasn't done anything for a while). A lot of people like Sloan.

There are a bunch of bands you should check out. A few that I would recommend are:
    Chixdiggit from Calgary
    The Papillomas from Vancouver Island
    The Smugglers from Vancouver
    Clover Honey from Vancouver
Plum Tree from Halifax(broken up now)
    The Salteens from Vancouver
I could go on but that's a pretty good start. Every one of these bands has websites and I think most of the sites have mp3s so you can test them out before you buy their disc.
Although Sloan is hardly indie these days I would still recommend them to anyone who hasn't heard them as they are probably my favourite Canadian band ever, Yes, even more so than Platinum Blonde [IMG]

The band "liveonrelease" is fun. Good rock, smart writing.

The New Pornographers are kind of a Canadian indie-rock supergroup.

This recommendation request sounded somewhat familiar. So using the wonderful search engine, I got this thread:
    Suggestions for Canadian bands
There are alot of bands on that thread I would consider indie. Hope this helps.
Oh, since I am thinking of them right now, the Nines are a great indie pop band out of Canada. [IMG]

I second The New Pornographers. One of my fave bands, and they put on a great live show.
