When the Indiana Jones 4-DVD set came out I'm sure I remember reading that there were going to be deleted scenes added to the movies. However, now that I got the set for Christmas, the deleted scenes are not mentioned anywhere on the box. I have not had the time to watch them yet, but does anyone know if the deleted scenes are on there? I was really looking forward to those.

No deleted scenes shown anywhere in the set. They were never announced as part of the DVD's specs - your memories about them being included in the films are incorrect.

I remember reading an E! Online article that said they'd include deleted scenes. Not exactly the most reliable source though. Never heard of them being included in the movie though. A few short clips from deleted scenes are shown in the doucmentaries.

The following is what I read that led me to think there were going to be deleted scenes:

"Fourth disc features 200 minutes of extras including never-before-seen footage from all three films"

Maybe it was deleted scenes shown within the documentaries that they were talking about, but I knew I read it somewhere. I would've bought the DVDs anyway, but those were the extras I was most excited about...I don't care much for "making of/behind the scenes" extras, especially for Raiders since I saw all that stuff back in the '80s.

"Never-before-seen footage" doesn't necessarily equal deleted scenes. The set indeed includes footage that's never been seen, I guess - it just doesn't have any deleted scenes...

I read that Lucas wanted to include deleted scenes for each film, similar to the ones for Ep1 and Ep2, but Spielberg shot down that idea. Apparently he doesn't like cut scenes shown on his movie DVDs/laserdiscs and is often reluctant to include them. It's a shame, since there are quite a few interesting deleted scenes from all three Indy films. I guess we'll never see them, except in still photos and 20+ yr old documentaries. :frowning:

Its been a couple years since I saw Jaws on DVD but I think I remeber Spielberg including deleted scenes, but my memory could be failing me. Also, didn't ET have some added scenes? Althoug, I don't know if those were original scenes that got deleted or if those were scenes Spielberg created with new technology (which I don't like).

Spielberg's policy seems to have changed with recent releases of his movies. He used to be fine with including deleted scenes separate from the movie like with Jaws, the ET laserdisc, The Lost World, etc., but now he seems to be against their inclusion.

Some of the documented behind-the-scenes footage gives glimpses into what some of the deleted scenes from the films would have been like, among them:

- the original showdown between Indy and the swordsman
- a Nazi holding Sallah at gunpoint
- Indy and his father walking on a train railway

Whether the actual deleted scenes exist or not is another question, but the behind-the-scenes filming of these scenes on the DVDs are proof that they were filmed.

I don't think we can view a blanket policy from Spielberg. After all, he released an alternate version of ET in theaters and on DVD. He did leave off other deleted scenes from the DVD, though, which is weird. So who knows?

Raymond,

You might want to try multiple stores - I would think someone would take it at this time of the year. If not, try selling it on Ebay.
