    Quick question,
I have been shopping for in wall wiring in my new home, why would you need more than 2 conductors, wouldnt you just need 1-black and 1-red, why do they offer four conductor wires. Thanks in advance.

    Kevin,

Four conductor wire is great for some in-wall wiring applications.

For instance, you would only need to pull a single cable to do both surround speakers.

Or, you could go ahead and pull two four-conductor cables and know you would have spare conductors if there was ever a problem. Or, the extras would be in place for a future up-grade, like a rear center speaker or two.

My advice would be to run three sets of wires to the rears so you are setup for the rear-center speaker that is becoming popular with EX systems.
I would also run enough wire to create a un-broken link to your speakers. Run the wires through electrical outlet box's and buy blank face-plates for about $0.50 ea. Drill holes for the wires and this will give you a neat appearance. Later if you want, you can cut the wires just outside the faceplates and install covers with speaker binding posts.
Check the DIY fourm for other in-wall wire ideas.
