I've got Niles HD-LRS speakers (in-wall) as my surround-side and surround-rears. I'm debating putting in a wall-unit that would house normal, exterior speakers or just purchase a low entertainment credenza and stick with the in-wall speakers (for my fronts and center). MY QUESTION... is there a significant reduction in quality with the in-walls vs the normal free-standing speakers? IF I stick w/the in-walls, does anyone have any other suggestions for the fronts and center speakers besides the Niles or should I stick w/the same brand.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Your main concern with putting "normal" speakers in an enclosure would be porting. If the speakers have no ports it may not affect the sound quality all that much. Many speakers, however, are ported and many are rear-ported which would take out the option of putting them in an enclosure.
