What would be the ideal placement of speakers (floor standing or in-wall mounted) for a room where the Monitor/Screen is in the corner of the room?

Since the Sony 40" Direct-view is so damn deep, putting it in the corner is best for space conservation.

Do you recommend in-ceiling speakers for the surrounds?

If the TV is in the corner... it would seem that in-walls (mounted in the perpendicular walls on either side of the TV) would be poorly aimed. Floor standers would be pretty much a necessity in this situation.

I'm not a fan of in-wall speakers in general. The walls in a typical house have highly variable (from dismal to mediocre) acoustic properties. In-walls are difficult to upgrade (oops, wrong size hole); and they must stay behind when the house is sold. With that said, high-quality in-walls (Snell and Triadcome to mind, in particular) can be quite good and definitely suitable for surrounds.

Back or side-wall mounting is preferable, IMO, but ceiling-mount is still quite popular.
