Here is a question - I have the opportunity to pick up this Disney movie on laserdisc but it is only in pan & scan. I am quite sure that it was fimed with a OAR of 2.35. If that is the case, is it worth buying? At this point is it reasonable to conclude that it will not see the light of day on dvd or should I hold my breath and just wait? I also am assuming that the video quality would be better than a VHS tape version. Any thoughts on this?
:) :) :)

As far as I know/researched CASTAWAY was not filmed in Panavision. The VHS/laserdisc composition looks perfectly all right. Perhaps the ratio was 1.85:1, but that's about it. The only Panavision/Cinemascope/Technirama feature films Disney ever did were:

20 000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA

SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON

GREAT LOCOMOTIVE CHASE

WESTWARD HO THE WAGONS

LADY AND THE TRAMP

SLEEPING BEAUTY

and that's all.

Well...those are from the same studio...but NOT from Walt Disney himself...so I left them off (I guess I could have thrown ALL the post-Walt films on the list...but since CASTAWAY was original WALT...I figured that's where the interest lay...sorry.

I'm hoping for a Vault Disney edition of Castaways, but until then the LD serves me well, even tho it is P&S :frowning:
Been a while since I watched it, but I can't recall that the P&S was too painfully obvious.
