I am looking for a 50 watt (RMS) amplifier to power a subwoofer in my home theater surround system. Any know of a good site to find an affordable one at? Also, a buddy of mine suggested that I get a 100 watt (50 watts per channel) stereo receiver and just use it for the built in amplifier. So any other ideas like that are also welcome. Thanks

Parts Express has a 40w subwoofer plate amp. It would need to be mounted in your sub enclosure or a separate enclosure that you build.

What sub are you powering that you only need 50w?

Parts-Express.com - Speakers, Speaker Building, Home Audio and Video, Pro Audio, Electronic Parts & Accessories Accessories4less J&R: Electronics, Digital Cameras, Computers, Appliances, Software, Video Games, DVDs, CDs . and other sites have amps. I recently bought a nice AudioSource amp from J and R that would probably be perfect for you. Your friend is right, you can use an older used stereo receiver from craigslist or elsewhere to power a sub. That's how I'm powering a passive sub in my office right now.
