Just caught this overlooked masterpiece again last night on TCM in all its widescreen glory, and was wondering if anyone knew of a future DVD release date. Every past video release of it has been a horrible panned-and-scanned version.

Haven't heard. It is a masterpiece and deserves a good dvd version. For me, however, I've seen it once and I never want to see it again. It's one of those films that puts images in my mind that I don't want and can't get rid of.

I saw a beautifully restored version of this at the Academy theater in November of 2000 and am stunned that Sony hasn't yet released this on DVD. I thought the restoration was due to perhaps a forthcoming wide theatrical release, but that hasn't happened either. With the brouhaha over the death of Robert Blake's wife having died down, perhaps this can still happen.

Amazing film. I know the post-film discussion with Robert Blake, Scott Wilson, Quincy Jones and DP Conrad Hall was videotaped, so maybe that will make it onto the DVD as a supplement.

After reading this review, from Roger Ebert's Great Movies I was really disappointed to find out that the this film isn't available on dvd.
Since this thread was started, is there any news from Sony/Columbia of a tentative release of this film?
    Here's the link to Ebert's bi-weekly column:

    This is so weird!

I had a dream last night that this film came out on DVD. Now, all of a sudden, there's a thread about it.

    Weird.

    Anyway, I'd buy a copy.

They can use my 16mm trailer as a supplement if they don't have one of their own.

Perhaps the bleak subject matter is causing the studio to have qualms about releasing it.
