Regarding Cameron. I still don't believe that Cameron is violating his own intent by doing a 3D conversion of Titanic.
When he did the original film he had one intent. When he did a 3D conversion, he had a different intent. They are separate and do not necessarily have to conflict with each other.
As an aside, however, I believe there is more than one composition in the film that lend themselves to 3D conversion. Whether it is a fluke or Cameron planned it that way only he knows.
