So... Nowhere in that press release was I able to discern exactly what "Imax Enhanced" even means. I'm calling it snake oil. Heck, Imax hasn't really meant anything special since they started using the name for theaters using two, 2K projectors on screens a fraction of the size of their older venues. 15 perf. film on a massive screen or it's not Imax, as far as I'm concerned.

If you'll excuse me, I must chase rapscallions off of my lawn.

Maybe this will be the next big thing in home theater. You very own IMAX certified screening room. It would certainly gives us all something new to strive for.

I’m sorry but I just don’t get anything out of the announcement except we have a new streaming service. I must be really stupid.

You’re not stupid. Trying to launch yet another service offering the same content as existing ones is.

There sure is a lot of flowery language on that imax private theater page; and then here's the spec:

    • Immersive IMAX® curved screen and movable frame
    • Proprietary IMAX® sound system
    • Quality equalizer and power amplifier
    • HD multi-media content server and player
    • (supporting HD television, Blu-ray™, DVD, CD, gaming and karaoke)
    • Touch-screen control pad with dedicated control system
    • Number of seats x3 pairs of professional 3D glasses
    *Space Requirement: 80-150 m² (860 - 1938 sq. ft)

To ensure your complete ongoing satisfaction, IMAX Private Theatre Platinum™ benefits from
    24/7 remote system problem diagnoses.

Brian, I totally agree with your comments about 15-perf IMAX. These are my sentiments entirely.

Could I just point out that my articles are not press releases as such, even though the information does come directly from press announcements. I just wanted to make the differentiation clear. If I were to post a press release unedited or untargeted to our audience here, the story will be in the official Press Releases forum. Both AVS Forum and S&V use a similar method to relay news to their members.

I mostly agree, though 4K laser projection on those same massive screens comes awfully close.

Close, but the IMAX venues with 4K projectors are still very much in the minority. I fully believe that digital projection technology is evolving at a pace wherein it will eventually equal or exceed the old IMAX film process. Right now, however, people are paying a premium for a lesser experience. Then again, I still think Cinerama was pretty darned fantastic. :)
