Yeah I don't like those shows either, but there is more to choose from.
Nip Tuck, Gilmore Girls (Best show on TV IMHO), The Shield, Alias, Amazing Race (Yes, gasp a reality show), Arrested Development, Smallville, Stargate Atlantis/SG1, The Dead Zone , Joan of Arcadia & The O.C., are shows that don't really fit in the CSI or Everybody Loves Raymond mold, and while no show is going to please everybody, I find it hard to imagine that somebody could not find at least a couple of commercial shows that they would enjoy tuning into each week.
Well the problem arises that HBO and SHOWTIME only do a few hours a week of original programming. I switch to the networks when HBO and SHOWTIME show the same movie they have broadcast 100 times, again. Be that as it may, The HBO dramas and Larry David are my favorite shows on the air right now.
Cold Case Alias American Dreams Arrested Development Two and a Half Men Everwood Gilmore Girls One Tree Hill 24 Smallville Scrubs ER Survivor CSI Without A Trace Joan of Arcadia The Amazing Race
Now for the cable-only shows I like:
The Shield Nip/Tuck Good Girls Don't The Dead Zone Monk World Poker Tour World Series of Poker Celebrity Poker Showdown
Now for premium cable channel shows:
The Sopranos Curb Your Enthusiasm Six Feet Under (for now) Carnivale BullShit Dead Like Me
Well I don't watch much network TV either except for:
American Dreams King of the Hill The Simpsons Malcolm in the Middle Still Standing Everybody Loves Raymond One Tree Hill Bernie Mac Show 24 Without a Trace
I'll take a good ep of one of these recent shows over at least half of the stuff on HBO/SHO, including most of seasons 3 and 4 of The Sopranos (Season 5 finally got things back on track):
Firefly Wonderfalls Farscape Keen Eddie
They are all 'off the air' now, but there'll be a couple more this fall that are worthy.
And there's nothing on HBO/SHO that can even touch stuff like Adult Swim or Mythbusters...there are entire genres that premium cable won't even touch.
Some of my favorite shows are on premium cable: Dead Like Me, Bullshit!, Curb Your Enthusiasm. But there is good stuff, and bad stuff, everywhere.
The post that originated this thread smells like little more than flamebait.
I love adult swim, but Showtime had aired a cartoon series last year geared for adults called Free For All, which was hilarious, and something the networks would probably stay clear of.
