The two industry experts I respect the most differ as to which format of 3D delivers the best image quality. They are: Joe Kane of Joe Kane Productions (co-founder of the ISF), and Dr. Raymond Soneira of DisplayMate Technologies. You can read Joe's relevant articles in Widescreen Review magazine. Dr. Soneira's articles are available at: http://www.displaymate.com/shootout.html . Consequently, I recommend that you get the best plasma for 2D performance that you can afford. Most of what you will watch will be in 2D. That would be a Panasonic TV. Most producers of video programs use Panasonic plasmas for their large format, direct view type displays. Most calibrators will agree.
