In my opinion if you want inexpensive AND you want great theater sound then I would go with the Kenwood VR-507 and JBL NSP-1/Sony SAWM40. This whole setup can cost less than $650 and will sound awesome. Great beginner system!
The Kenwood receiver is very user friendly and very flexible with speaker settings, loaded with lots of inputs and PL2,dts,etc. and sounds great!
I really like the Kenwood in favor of the Onkyo 494.
