I may be a graphics whore and get it solely for the 1080i resolution.

Plus,
It's The Matrix for crying out loud; how bad can it be? (I say, as I positively ignore all the bad Star Wars games in the past)

I hope the movie is good.
I'm betting it will be a notch above "good". :D

I'm expecting the movie to be like the first (introduces some amazing new visuals that raise the bar for coolness, while telling an interesting story that keeps you excited until the end).

The game I don't care that much about. I'll probably get it for the movie tie-in anyway.

BTW, did they (IGN) mention that nobody is allowed to see the added cinematic scenes from the game until the game comes out? I haven't read the story yet (might later) but I am aware that the Wachowski Bros. are being very careful about not revealing much about the story.

Ah, found it ... sounds like a rental. The preview is based on the PS2 version, graphics sound like a mixed bag.

Ugh, they shot themselves in the foot when they used Jada Pinkett Smith as the main character.

When I want to run around in the Matrix environment, the first person I think of being is a soccer mom!

Ohhh, doesn't her funky corn rolls look tough? Come on kids, let's stop by Chuck E Cheeze after I beat these thugs up.

I may pick it up to check the 1080i, but I'm guessing it is just upconverting the PS2 textures.

Have to agree that a Matrix game without being able to play as Neo or even Morpheous is very disappointing ... whoa :D

Ive never liked the idea of games being tied in with movie release dates, quality always seems to suffer, but then i suppose thats how you generate the most sales.

I'm guessing that some of the best ideas were curtailed during development just to get it out in time for release. Regardless of quality, it will still sell millions just like Spiderman.

The reason you don't play as Neo or Trinity or Morpheus is because the game is supposed to act as another view of their vision of the matrix. It adds to the story of the films, not recreates them, so they have to focus on the characters in the film who aren't the main ones.

I think that there are unlockable characters, though.

SpiderMan, as I recall, was pretty good. Not the best game ever, but definitely above par.

If Enter the Matrix is as good as SpiderMan was, I'll be plenty happy.

Bullet-time + 1080i + "Matrix" storyline = purchase.

I agree, Morgan, and I know that you're not promoting this in any way, but WHO CARES ABOUT THESE CHARACTERS?!?!? When I play a Star Wars game, I want to be Luke Skywalker or Han Solo, maybe even Vader (Wedge is cool, too). If I decided to play the Matrix game, I would want to be Neo, Morpheous, or even Trinity. This fact alone is half the reason I won't be purchasing the game. The other is the point made above that games that coincide with movie release dates are typically below par.

Anyway, I hate when the games depict second rate or completely new characters as the hero, Star Wars Starfighter and Jedi Starfighter are the absolute worst about this. I really don't care about escorting a caravan while the cool characters are off dueling with Darth Maul. I'm sure it gets into dealing with the star actors and their royalties, blah, blah, blah.

Sorry to rant, just thought I'd get that off my chest.

I think one of the problems with the review is this part:
(we played the PS2 version)
No offense to you PS2 owners but the PS2 version is hardly the best one.

I'm curious to see what the reviewer would say playing it on the Xbox at 1080i or 720p, 16x9 with full DD5.1 sound. That doesn't affect the gameplay part, but surely that should improve some of the complaints they had about it looking average. Maybe that even fixes the awkward looking movement?

I'm waiting on some Xbox reviews before I judge, and reviews with it played on an HD setup.

Bland textures at 1080i or 720p are only going to look worse.

I'll be curious to see, a.) whether this game pans out, and b.) the developer postmortems. I have to wonder if the Wachowski brothers maybe had a little too *much* input into the game. Being a great moviemaker and storyteller doesn't, after all, equate to being a great game maker . . .

(. . . and [blasphemy] I'm not convinced the Wachowski brothers are moviemaking gods yet, either. They struck gold once. We'll see if they can do it again May 15.)

Did it ever occur to anyone that maybe the developers didn't decide on the playable characters, but the Wachowski Bros. did?

Very true statement.

Imagine if *gasp* the sequel is a flop?!!? It would be on the level as when Tyson lost to Buster Douglas.
