check out Furthurnet.com (no www). They have a napster type program that lets people trade bands that allow recordings of their live shows (read as legal, legal, legal). The search function forces you to select from a drop down box with all the bands who allow taping.

The usual suspects such as Phish, Grateful Dead, Gov't Mule, Dave Matthews band and Bob Marley are there, but they also have bands like Pearl Jam and Metallica. You can also find some improv jazz bands like Medeski, Martin and wood; Jazz Mandolin Project and Schleigho.

Obviously downloading a show takes some time especially for those of us with dial up service, but the software keeps track of progress and can resume downloads if you get disconnected.

The other discussion group that I waste time on is
www.phishhook.com
This is a website that facilitates the trading of live legal boots. You can store your list and discuss music or anything else as well.
