I'd love a new sticky message for this forum...

If the moderators would create a sticky thread (always showing on top) for this great forum, I'd love it. The subject would be something like 'Things I wish I would have done differently in my project' or something like this. I've received invaluable assistance so far in my short time here, those who have gone before are always a great source. However I'm sure most people have some regret after completion - something like I wish I would have made my cable runs longer, I wish I would have used more sound deadening material in my ceiling before drywalling, etc. This would be a great source to those in the process.

I'm early on in the process (just a weekend warrior), just finishing studding out the walls. My regret - I wish I would have been more careful using my reciprocating saw around my copper water pipes. Bit of a wet episode, lesson learned.

It could have been worse - your saw could have found a forgotten electric line!

or gas line and sparked... i'd rather have neither, but i'll take the water. Sounds like you're doing an attic job?

No attic job, a basement build. I was cutting away some old studs when I hit the line. Shouldn't have been using that tool - electricity was nearby & I could have severed a line as well. Lesson learned (I hope)!

I think your idea would make a great thread. My regret would be putting in 1" conduit rather than at least 2", or even better, as one person has said, putting in plastic rain gutters instead of conduit for future-proofing your cable run to your FP.

I just missed the nail with my hammer, and took out my thumb instead. A few stitches later, my theater is almost complete. And worth the sweat and pain.
