My AR hi-res quest came to an end Sunday night when I returned home from Yousaf's house with a pair of AR15's for the rear channels. Last Monday marked the beginning of my good fortune when Terence gave me the number to Melton's
Home Theater where I finally was able to secure an AR2C center channel. That very same day Yousaf mentioned that he was selling his AR15's, anyway the rest as they say was
history.
In a round-about way Don Roeber also played a role in my good fortune; if he hadn't posted the Acoustic Research AR
hi-res thread none of said events may very well have
transpired. So Don, thank you, even though inadvertently.
I'd also like to thank Brett DiMichele and Scott Lip for
whatever amount of time and effort they put in trying to
help me procure an AR2C, thanks guys .
So now here I'am, an ecstatically proud owner of an all AR hi-res speaker set, I had no intention of getting the AR2C
or AR15's when I got the AR1's; but thanks to Brett infecting me with the upgrade bug that all changed. Actually when I finally secured the AR2C the thought of trying to get the AR15's was non-existent, after all the trouble I'd gone through to get the AR1's and AR2C I was resolved to live with the surrounds I'd been using (Sony: SS-SR11), not the least of which because they did a great job. Therefore, Yousaf selling the AR15's was icing on the cake.
I no longer have to go through the embarrassment of telling people that I'm using a Bose center channel, though to be fair I must confess that it did a half way decent job, then again I did have the center speaker volume level maxed out at +12 just to keep the Bose from being drowned out by the AR1's. Now I have the center and mains set at 0 (flat) and the surrounds at +3 as opposed to +10 when I was using the Sony's.
How does the system perform?, well I was prepared to write an ultra glorified review, but everyone would just think it was an emotional, subjective, heady, biased, exaggeration (which to a very small extent would be true),
so instead I'll describe it's performance in the following
manner:
