how does Ice Age compare to Shrek?

i didnt catch Ice Age in the theaters and the dvd is coming soon. I really liked Shrek and I have a $3 coupon for Ice age and might consider buying it sight unseen.

I liked Shrek, but I thought Ice Age was dreadfully boring.

I enjoyed both. The transfer is going to be gorgeous, and my wife falls off the couch every time she hears Sid talk. I'll be picking this one up. Maybe not quite as funny as Shrek.. but it's all a matter of taste. Great story and it's a movie my wife will like to play on the HT system.. so it's a no brainer for me.

Ice Age is a great Tex Avery-style cartoon about a little character named Scrat, but they keep interrupting it for this other story that bored me to tears.

I liked it. I thought the Scrat parts alone were better than Shrek.

The humor in Shrek was a bit more crass - definitely aimed at the teenage crowd. Ice Age was more family-oriented.

And yes - Scrat stole the show!

    IMO.

I dunno - The scrat parts - to me were just slightly funny. To me, they were a bit TOO conventional as a typical stand up comedian's tool to generate laughts on stage.
ICE AGE was Fox's best effort to date, but I think the content was less creative and the underlying themes didn't have enough emotional arch to be at the level of Shreck and the Pixar films

Shrek hands down. I'm with Paul, Scrat was a crack up with the rest of the movie being ok. If you can get it for about $10, then I'd pick it up just for the kids.

Shrek is way better but Ice Age is still worthy of a purchase.

It seems like I am the only person on the planet who didn't like Shreck that much, maybe it was the bad taste that the rented vhs copy that my sister brought left in my mouth. I am looking forward to ICE.

    What's worse than a pan-scan dvd? A pan-scan VHS.

If I may add my two cents, as much as I enjoy Ice Age, it is very much a hybrid of Monsters Inc. and Shrek.
The whole relationship with the main band of heros is almost exactly the same as Shrek and donkey's, and I think even a few lines were almost carbon copies.
The whole plot to return the baby is a lot like Monsters Inc.
That being said, I enjoyed the Ice Age setting, the characters were funny, and its a good family pleaser. After hearing about the fabulous transfer and the wealth of extras, I'll be picking up the DVD. [IMG]
As for Shrek, I enjoyed it, but it wasn't really something I'd watch a lot.
