hey keith, have you gotton that DAC yet for the AH!? I thought I read one of your post that you're moving to the Bay Area and maybe I can check your DAC out. I interested in putting one in my AH!

Anny, no I have not gotten the DAC, and I am not moving to the Bay Area. At least I am not aware of an impending move. I think you have me confused with someone else. :) In any event, I cancelled my pre-order for the DAC awhile back. I mentioned it in another thread back then, but I should have mentioned it here too. In any event, I cancelled the order because I am planning a wedding and am cutting back on hardware expenses for the moment. That said, I am eager to read some reviews of the DAC. Hopefully soon.

Holy cow! Getting married and cutting back on Hardware purchases!
You'll be in the same boat as me when the S.O. sees all the stuff I buy and says what the hell does this thing do and do you really need it:D
anyway, she'll be a lucky girl, she's not marrying a guy but a Home Entertainment System:)

Another way I have found to improve the sound of any DAC is a little device that just "clean" odd distortions that are formed there. This effectibly cleans the signal before it reach the amplifier so the sound become more natural. Here is a link to this interesting device:

John, believe me, my fiancee knows all about my dirty little habit. I mean, she's been to my house before. You can't miss the stuff. ;) Anyway, I really am not yearning for any hardware, amazingly enough. I am still buying music, but no gear. It's quite refreshing to be spending money on music and not hardware. :)

Damn Keith, I saw this thread reopened and thought you had some info for us on the upsampling board :frowning: (not necessarily first hand). I wouldn't be surprised if the board is late.
Anny,
I think you were thinking of KeithR, who did move from NY to the left coast. However, I'm not sure he has an Ah!, so you may have juggled the 2 Keiths around somewhat. OTOH, I do recall that KeithR also has high end audio gear, so...

Doug, well the upsampling board already is late. Remember it was originally supposed to be available at the end of August.

I apologize if this has already been discussed;

Can you switch back to 16/44.1 or does the player always upsample after the board is installed?

Rob, the player cannot be set to 16/44.1 with the upsampling board installed. It always upsamples to 24/192. So, it is not possible to assess the contribution to any improvement in the sound quality to the new DAC or upsampling independently.
