I was in a local Wal Mart today (Dukes of Hazzard discs)

    Also on the same shelf, they had the Dukes of Hazzard season 1 set with 5 discs in the "spindle" style packaging. The plastic wrap on it looked kinda old and ragged.

    IIRC, this version was just a straight repressing of each flipper face moved onto individual single-side discs. (IIRC, the original flipper version of season 1 had three flipper discs where the third disc's side B was just a dud side with no content).

    Why would the original first-season double release have nothing on the back side of that third disc?

    No idea why something like this would be done, besides laziness.

    The original Dallas season 3 also had a fifth disc which was a dud on sideB. (SideA of disc5 had the "who shot JR" episode).

    And so did 5/9 of the original Waltons double releases (not until the 6th go [1977-78] was anything included on the back side of the last disc).
