My current receiver has no 5 channel stereo mode. However, I think I would like this for playing light background music in my room and maintain a constant volume as you move around. Are there any ways to accomplish this without a setting in the reciever?

I was thinking I could take a stereo output from the cd player and split each channel so it goes to a front and a surround input(of my 5.1 analog input). But then I have no center channel(which I could lie with) but more importantly it has no bass managament so I couldn't use the sub right?

Is there any way to accomplish this without buying new equipment?

You are correct, and that is pretty much the only way unless you have an additional amp.
