Hey, I think I'll be picking up an XBOX tomorrow (Superstore has a $30 coupon that's good for the first tuesday of every month if you spend over $250, and I have about $60 worth of PC Points to use up, and can't think of a better use for it.

Well, I might be able to get a second coupon and will use it for games and perhaps a second Joystick and HD Pack. What games should I pick up for it? This is my first major jump into console gaming of any kind, I'll play anything, I just want your best recommendations! Thanks!

You must pick up Halo, it is still the best game on the system.

If you are a NFL fan, there is NFL2K3 and Madden 2003. If you are a College football fan there is NCAA 2003.

Racing games: Project Gotham Racing, Rallisport Challenge, and SEGA GT.

Tony Hawk 4 is coming out in a month or so. I would make sure you buy an S-controller as your 2nd controller for this game in particular.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is an excellent game.

Silent Hill 2 is a must play.

Jet Set Radio Future is my 2nd favorite game on the X-box. This game can be found at Target for $30.

I'll second the HALO recommendation, especially if you have 5.1 sound.

I'd also STRONGLY suggest getting XBox Live, which will put you online starting Nov 15th. If you've played PC games online, you already know that online is the way to go.

Let me finish by encouraging you to allow yourself to get used to the controls for console FPS's. It might take some time, if you prefer the keyboard and mouse method.

    I'll 3rd the Halo nomination.

I have NFL2k3 on my Xbox as well. It's a good game, but after playing it for a while, I'm starting to find some minor issues with the gameplay. No show stoppers, as it is still a good game.

Halo is still the best game playing experiece over the past few years... especially if you have a friend or two to play with.

Splinter Cell is coming out in about a month... and it is looking pretty sweet, and set to knock Metal Gear from its pedestal.

If you're a platforming fan you should check out "Munch's Oddysee", which like JSRF should be available for around $30.

I think youcan find Munch for $20 a lot of places.

At any rate, if you are getting a second controller, pick up the smaller 's' controller. Most people seem to prefer the 'S' contoller, though I prefer the original. The Xbox comes with one of the original ones, so you can play both that way.

    I'll second Project Gotham - it's a great game.

Also, Xbox live does rock - I'd put that on my list too.

Halo is a no-brainer, but NCAA 2003 is my pick; I can't put this game down.

I would highly recommend MotoGP. It is a great racer and it is XBOX Live compatible.

To start you off I'd recommend, Halo, NFL2K3, and either Moto GP or Sega GT. All great games IMO and don't forget the controller S as Dean mentioned, it makes playing the extreme games easier.

    JET SET RADIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....ummm Future..[IMG]
yeah thats the one, cant recommend it enough. Halo is obvious.
I will second that MotoGP recommendation as well. Best damn racer on the Xbox IMHO. Munch is a no-brainer if you enjoy a good "unique" platformer. (and the fact that its 20 bucks is even better!).
If you have never played it I'll second that Silent Hill 2 recommendation with a WHOLE HEART! One of my all time favorite games and a must own on any system.
....and if your REALLLLY hardcore..Gunvalkyrie is my recommendation. You'll swear, you'll curse, you'll throw the controller and swear never to touch the game again, that is until you finally master the mobius state and are one with the gameplay. You will feel Zen, you will be Buddha *Voices chanting can be heard in the background*.

I don't know if it's true, but I just read that MS will begin packaging the Xbox with two Sega games in mid Oct. for the same price. If true, it should be a hell of a deal.

Actually Dave, it'll be GT 2002 and JSRF. Two very good games + it'll come with the S controller.

    My personal faves, and why:
    1. NCAA 2003 - because I can finally make UCLA a great team and consistently kick the Big 12's asses! [IMG] Plus if you know how to play Madden, you already know how to play this.
    2. Dead or Alive 3 - Don't look for balanaced, super-technical fighting. It's just awesome eye-candy.
    3. Hunter: The Reckoning - think of this as Gauntlet w/cool graphics.

In addition to Halo, the most addictive game on the Xbox for me was (and is) Project Gotham. So if you're into racing, that'll be the one.

In addtion to PGR, I recommend the following (which all I have - so I'm putting my ...): Jet Set Radio Future, Rallisport (another rally racing), NFl 2k3, Buffy the Vampire, Tony Hawk Skaing 3 (maybe 4 will be better), and definitely Dead or Alive 3.
