    hi all -

i need to store my 200 or so vinyl records. right now they're just sitting in a cardboard box (yes, they are in an upright position) behind my couch.

i used to have those napa valley crates, but i can't find them anymore.

i suppose my only criteria is that they be sturdy. anyone have any suggestions?

    thanks,

    ted

    Milk crates.

Why are they behind the couch?

i've used milk crates in the past. decided against them this time for two reasons:
    1. i have to "acquire" them and they're usually dirty
    2. i don't like the way the albums can slide from side to side
they're behind the couch because my turntable broke about 5 years ago and i haven't bothered to get a new one - although i would certainly love to get a turntable and revisit the world of analog. [IMG]

apple or peach crates. maybe you can get some from the produce dept. of your local supermarket or an apple orchard if you have any nearby. i've got some older peach crates that work fine, but when looking for some newer ones, they weren't quite tall enough.

Is Napa Valley out of business? I have some CD sized crates and I'd like some more, but my web searches have been fruitless (and crateless).

How about these record crates from The Container Store?
I've used them for years. Pretty sturdy and very affordable.
P.S. I've always placed a piece of carpet in the bottoms for extra protection.

Paul, how many LP's will a single crate hold? [IMG]

    Frank,
I just counted my top crate. It has 83 LPs in it with a comfortable 1 1/2" to 2" flipping room. I usually fit more in when storing records so that they all stand straight up.

By the way, it was my Rap Favorites A through N (or Audio Two through N.W.A.).

    thanks all -

paul - those supreme crates may just do the trick.
    james - fyi...that link didn't work.

i also can't find napa valley stuff anywhere...maybe they did go out of business.
