Well, pretty soon someone will think I'm a salesman for Fluance

Here's my recommendation for decent speakers on a lower budget: Fluance SXHTB+ 5 Speaker Surround Sound Home Theater System

For the sub, check out Polk or Dayton

Amazon.com: Dayton SUB-120 HT Series 12" 150 Watt Powered Subwoofer: Electronics

My personal favorite is the $429 SVS, but that is more than you want to spend. However, if the bug bites you....

David, I saw Fluance a few months ago from an online review, and decided to check them out. It's obvious that you like them, so I just have a quick question - how do those compare to a Polk or SVS/High End system?

Marcin,

Go to Home Depot and get a spool of 12, 14, or even 16 gauge wire. It will be fine and save you some money. No need to get it from the speaker company.

Monoprice.com or BlueJeansCable.com are also good places for cables/wire.

PS: Either 606 or 706 would be fine. The 706 has pre-outs, better Audyssey, and other features. Soundwise, they should be similar.

Hi Chris,

Well.... Let me start by saying that Fluance are a few steps above HTiB speakers, great for entry level, and overall a good value. However, I would not compare them to anything high end. I can tell you the my current Axioms would embarrass the old Fluance. As they should. Fluance cost me $300. Axiom cost me $2000+.

Now, I never intended to keep the Fluance more than one year. Due to life's circumstances, I had to keep them for 3. In the 3 years I had them, I really, truly enjoyed my HT. They were more than acceptable and I got plenty of complements. No one figured they were $300 speakers.

I will say this. They sounded better than my old Sony crap, better than my Infinity bookshelves, way better than the Pioneer monsters I had in the 80's, and they don't look all that bad.

Dave first of i wanna thank you. today i purchased the speakers and the sub fluance and the svs sub. you seem to know your stuff so i have one more question for you.
there is a guy locally that's selling a used onkyo TX-SR806 which puts out 130 watts per channel for 450 dollars. Do you think i should pick that up over onkyo 606 and 706 brand new do you think if i crank up the amp all the way up or someone that would be in my house will that blow my fluence speaker? because the surround speakers and center speakers handle only 30-100 watts do you think this will be a problem. i hope you respond fast because i don't want that deal to get away and again thank you for all the help

First of all i want to thank you Dave. I purchased the fluence speakers today and an SVS sub. you seem to know your stuff so i was wondering if you could help me with one more thing there is a guy close by that's selling onkyo TX-SR806 for 450 dollars which i think its a good deal but im scared if someone comes over my house and cranks up the volume my speakers they will blow because the center speaker and surround speaker is rated for 30 to 100 watts do you think this might be a big problem. i hope you respond fast because i don't want to miss out on the deal and again big thanks

Unless your room is very large and you have to really crank it (I mean REALLY crank it), I think it is unlikely that you will ever push 130 watts to a single speaker with the 806. If you can get the used 806 for close to the same price as the 706, go for it.

Please let us know how you like the speakers and the sub.

Now that truly stinks. I had a similar problem over the summer with my new speakers... On of the mains arrived with a bad tweeter. Axiom was quick to replace it and everything has been working since.

Here's a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem.

Make sure the metal connectors are securely fastened between the upper and lower binding posts. Without these, you will be missing sound. All the binding posts should be tight - even the ones that don't have wire in them.

While you are looking at the posts, double check your wire at the speaker and the receiver for bare wires.

Next, if that doesn't fix the problem, swap the left and right speakers to see if it really is the speaker. The problem should follow the speaker.

If you still have an issue, we can help you figure out which driver is causing it. Then you can call Fluance. I doubt you will have to send the speaker back. Usually the internet direct company will help you replace the broken part.
