that will get me Pittsburgh Steeler games though I am in NYC...

Basically i want to bring it to the bar with me, plug an earphone in, and listen to the game while I watch...

It would be very difficult for me to get DirectTV here.

    Thanks,

    Rich

If you're going to be wearing your Steeler's hat, this product is $20.

The best AM radio when it comes to reception and intelligibility, IMHO, are the ones from Crane but they're more pricey. They've got a few different models but for AM reception, I don't know of any better.

    AM or FM station?

If AM, then you'll have some difficulty finding a portable radio with a decent AM tuner. Most radios sold in the last 30 years have absolutely awful AM reception. One exception is the GE SuperRadio III, which has good reception... but it's big, somewhat ugly, and has become hard to find. Amazon still lists it here . Another possibility would be a small shortwave radio, such as the Sony ICF-2010/2001 or ICF-SW7600.
