Hello people this is my first post here, I've been reading the posts here for a few days. You guys are going to get me in trouble, but I just love watching movies at home.
The room is 10 feet wide, 13 feet long, and 7 feet high.
I have a polk audio non-powered subwoofer hooked up to a receiver, this doesnt do it for me. I want to feel the room shake when the dinosaur is walking in jurrasic park, and feel explosions in my chest, somthing to put a nice grin on my face :D and a "wow look" to friends faces.
Will the eztubeshiva give me what i want? The posts on this forum suggest that its a good sub but I couldnt find any posts that would say if this is enough for what im looking for.
I have a Pioneer VSX-1014TX-K Receiver on the way, UPS should deliver it tomorrow, so I'll be connecting the sub to this receiver and I'll need a plate amp as well for the sub.
Thanks

While very good drivers, Shivas don't have that 'slap-you-up-side-of-the-face-bass' available from larger/higher excursion drivers. That is unless you use a bunch of them

What's the budget for this project? Knowing that will make recommendations easier.

$500 should be good for a nice 15" driver and a 500 watt amp or so. You'll probably want to build a big vented box tuned to a slightly higher than normal frequency (20-22Hz perhaps?), to get the extra impact. I wish I was caught up enough to make a specific recommendation, but I know someone's coming out with a new set of drivers (soon) that might fit the bill. You could also consider buying one of the 500 watt plate amps from PE for $250, since they're on special.

Good lord, a Shiva will be more than enough for a 910 cubic foot room, in my opinion. Of course, I don't really know what Thomas means by 'slap-you-up-side-of-the-face-bass', and maybe that's what you want. :) My Dayton Quatro 15", essentially the same air movement capability as a Shiva, is enough for me in a room that's more than three times larger.

With a budget of $500 you have a lot of choices. For reference, it cost me about $120 to build my 9.7 cubic foot cabinet, $85 for the woofer, and $200 for the separate (non-plate) amplifier. I think your decision may simply rest on box size. Larger woofers generally need a larger box, and smaller woofers need more power for the same output. I don't know that I'd want a giant box in a room that small just for aesthetic reasons, though a tube style can do so with relatively little floor space.

I wholeheartedly agree with Thomas on this design. Unfortunately, I don't think you'll be able to tell if your friends have a "wow" look on their face because they will be cowering in the corner when that thing hits.

But if you do manage to catch a peep it will look something like this...

I would agree that you probbely wouldnt find anything with more output for that price. I have that same amp and I would highly recommend it. I have mine powering a set of Blueprint 1804 subs in an IB setup right now and it is absolutly insane. That 1503 in a tube will knock your socks off for sure.

My AV12 and 500w amplifier came to about $550. But I built an expensive box. The AV12 is a very good-sounding, low-distortion woofer as well. Unfortunately, it's not currently available.

The ThomasW design should do great for blowing you out of your seat.

Welcome to the forum Marcus! Yep, the suggestions listed above will definitely meet and probably surpass your goals, plus you get the satisfaction of knowing you built it yourself.

Meet your goals, ha, try scaring the living crap out of you..;)

You build this properly as in the link, and run it in that size room, hang on to your ass, litterly!

Coming from the non powered Polk to this, your in for a very very big surprise that will have you and your friends running and cowering for cover...

Good luck

How would that sub stack up against the svs 16-46PC-Plus. Im still debating on if I should go the DIY route or the SVS. If anyone has heard both please let me know your impressions.

I thought the budget was $500 not almost $900?

This is really an apples vs oranges comparison

Regardless, SVS 16-46PC-Plus would lose, since it uses only a 12" driver. The BP-1503 has quite a bit more displacement, and the Nady amp has more power.

Want to spend $900 and kill the neighbors?

Buy 2 BP1503's, get a Behringer EP2500 power amp, and build a copy of Tube-Zilla
