To be used with Sony 32FV27.

Do not need progressive scan. Mp3 play OK but not a must.

    Budget around $300.00 US.

P.S. -- Panasonic DVD rv31 already under consideration.

If you don't need anything fancy the Panasonic RV31 can be had for around $170. The CV51 5 disc version is about $250.

if you're interested in DVD-Audio look into the Panasonic DVD-RA60. Only $240 and i believe its the exact same as the rv31 plus dvd audio. BTW Don't look for great MP3 support on these players.

    Steve,

To add a different thought. Recently bought a Pioneer DV-440 for $170 and am very happy with it, I wasn't looking for progressive scan either and didn't want to enter the DVD-Audio/SACD fight. Reviews on Audioreview.com have been very favorable.

I saw those great reviews on the Pioneer. Does anyone know

if it has the Chroma Bug?

Sorry, I don't know about the Pioneer but if you are concerned about avoiding the chroma bug I know for sure that Panasonics do not have it.

Steve, I don't own the Pioneer DV-440, but it looks to be a very nice player for $180 ($160 on sale at Best Buy from time to time). Build quality on the '440 is quite good for the money, and it has been said here that it handles MP3s better than the Panasonic 'RV31 (i.e., user interface). The '440 also has a very small chassis at 2.25" tall, which I like. Finally, it has a 24/192 Burr-Brown DAC, so it could be a good CD player for the money.

If I were in your position, I'd look at the '440 and the Panasonic 'RA60. The 'RA60 will cost you more, but it offers DVD-Audio. If the 'RA60 is built well, I'd probably go that route to get DVD-Audio. In fact, I've been considering the 'RA60 as an inexpensive way to get DVD-Audio in my second stereo system. Unfortunately, no stores in my area have it. I could always buy it online, but I would like to see it first. If you can find it in your area, give it a look.
