..four-oh. God, I'm depressed. Really depressed. I've been wallowing in large amounts of self-pity and alcohol for months, in preparation for the big event. So cheer me up. Tell me I'm really not on the downhill side. Let me know I'm still a viable human being. Reassure me a not yesterday's news. Make me really believe life begins at 40. Better yet, take up a donation and send me a bevy of beautiful nekkid men to shake their booty in my presence.
Help........ :frowning:

Well, I can't help you with the bevy of men, but I do know that you aren't on the downside, not by any means.
I suggest going & trying/doing something that you have thought of doing, but haven't done yet. And of course you are a viable, worthy human being - you post here on a regular basis :D
Anyways,smile,ok?
And happy B-Day to you!
Sincerely,
Calvin

I am certainly no motivational speaker, but life is what you make of it. I'd rather be out doing something than worrying about how old I am... It's OK to reevaluate yourself every once in a while, but don't dwell on it. It's a fact of life. Everything is a choice, so choose to be OK with life. A good friend of mine told me a very good one: "My body may be old, but my heart and mind are still very young" and it's very true. He just turned 64 and he can outrun me on a mountain bike at nearly half his age. :emoji_thumbsup: :emoji_thumbsup: Don't know if that helps, but I don't have any extra cash laying around, so it's all I've got. :D

If I had a bevy of those naked men, i wouldn't have so much time to post.:D
But you are not past your prime. You've learned so much more so you can put it to good use. The party is just starting. Celebrate.

I'll be joining you in August... I was pretty depressed for a while, but lately I've gotten used to it. Must be the tequila. :D

I turned 40 back in February - it hasn't bothered me in the least. At times, I still feel like I'm 25 (mentally, anyway :) . And since I've started going to the gym, I feel better than ever. Don't know how this helps, but there is no reason to feel depressed over turning 40...

I'm 43. I take my kids white-water rafting, backpacking, canoeing, and skiing. They giggle, I giggle, we behave like kids together. I'm the biggest kid they know.

Take your kid on outdoor kid adventures. Do things with him or her that you never got to do when you were a kid. If you don't have a kid, borrow one.

My youngest is 10, I figure that I've got at least another 5 years of adventures with him before he gets sick of me. After a span of 10 years or so, I'll take their kids on outings.

If you were knocked unconscious, taken to a desert island with no mirrors, and you woke up with amnesia, how old would you feel. I'd be pretty sure I was an adult, but other than that, I wouldn't have a clue. Forget the number and just concentrate on living your life.

Welcome to the big kids club.

I just turned 41 myself. My father died when he was 22 and I was 1. So the way I look at it, if I didn't turn 41, I'd be dead. It's really the only alternative.
Life is not guarenteed and considering how many die before they are 40, be thankful you are in one piece and breathing

I have yet to tell anyone here exactly what my age is, but I have a 23-year-old daughter by my first marriage. So, we in this thread all appear to be in the same decade. (I saw The Beatles live and in person, among many other things.)
Other than cringing about the fact that there are fewer days ahead than there are behind, and thinking that there has been so much I could have done but squandered the opportunities, I am happier now than I've ever been.
Not rich, the way I expected when I was hippie dreaming of rock stardom, but a happy sort nonetheless. And still a hippie, all things considered.
Pamela: I sent you a PM thanking you for the Norton Utilities disc, and I hope you received it. I also have a bunch of questions for you regarding the freeing up of memory on a Macintosh. Providing this important information to me may not be as entertaining as the desires detailed in your post, but they should make you feel useful! :)

Hey Pam the age thing is just hype perpetrated by those too young to appreciate what you're about. Happy Birthday.

If people ask me how old I am I usually have to think long and hard about it and even then the answer is often wrong. I stopped paying attention to age when I turned 21 as that seemed to be the last milestone of note. My wife assures me that I'm 33 but I really don't know why age matters so much anymore. Have fun being 40!

Happy B-day Pam! I'm not buff enough to be one of those nekkid men, but I'm sure it's the thought that counts. ;)
Jack the SF-buff sez:
but I have a 23-year-old daughter
Dang, Michael beat me to it! Ah well, she probably wouldn't understand my heavy weirdo canadian accent anyways.

I'll be hitting 40 next year and panic has not set in yet, one thing I've noticed, the older I get the younger my girlfriends get, soon I'll be dating sperm [City Slickers 1990].:emoji_thumbsup:
Hmmm Jack you know Sandra's not much older than your daughter, ooh sorry about that Jack.;)
Just remember guys, you're only as old as the girl you feel, oh shit, better stop this, sorry Pamela, don't worry about reaching 40 its all downhill from here, eeeek!:D
Happy 40th btw.:) :)

Thanks all! :)
I know I shouldn't make a big deal out of it, but I just thought that by now, I'd be a little farther along in life than I actually am. And having just lost someone very near and dear to me has made me all the more morose, and a tad bit introspective at the moment.
Not to mention, being a woman turning 40 has it's own pitfalls. You know, I'm just not as perky and wrinkle-free as I was at 20! And we all know how valued perky, wrinkle-free 20-year-old females are in our society. :D
*sigh* You can all line up and give me a boot to the arse, now. That oughta do it!
Thanks again!
P.S. Jack, I'll check the message and get back to you.

40 isn't nothing IMHO, my boss is 73 & runs circles around my buddies & I at work all the time,it's actually pretty funny seeing him pointing out the ladies to us when were the ones who should be chasing them around, but he always beats us to it.

To me your just getting wise to the world & getting a good foothold to stomp some butt,& your never over the hill until you decide to stop climbing.
