    Ugh. DVRs that then advertise non-implementation of this would then get a boost in sales; ironic that absence of a feature would be a selling point, and for that matter if Philips patents it, why would any manufacturer pay Philips royalties to include something no consumer wants? And I can't see how the studios or TV networks could force it into DVRs generally, as they have no say nor influence over the standards, unlike say the brouhaha over hi def, being a new standard which needs studios' cooperation to release their movies on hi def discs to take off.

    Oh well, worst case it'll wind up much like region coding today, where the big brands implement it, the "rogues" from China don't, and heck the big boys liberally throw out workarounds, or in some markets outright don't implement it either [​IMG]
