It was a quick audition, but I finally heard them. It was a pair of Contour T2.5's (list 4500/pair) hooked up to Meridian equipment (very beefy and very expensive looking) and a Pioneer transport (their top of the line dvd player). The speakers were placed alone in one of their theater rooms (enclosed on all sides...seemed like a nice room) and were placed about 7 or 8 feet apart, using a slight toe in. I only had time to play one cd, but I gave him some Dave Matthews I had bought along with me to put in the player. It sounded good. But these same songs played on my 2000TL's (hooked up to yamaha dspA1) are amazing! I am very familiar with this disc, and interestingly the 2000TL's came across as more holographic than the Contours with this disc. Certainly the two speakers did sound a bit different, but (being very honest here) the 2000TL's seemed to have more natural tonal balance. I got a much greater sense that the performers were there in front of me. They seemed to be clearer (or cleaner in sound) than the Contours! I know that I would have to take the Contours home and live with them for a while to make definitive conclusions, but after hearing them at the store and comparing them to the Def Techs I must say that the 2000TL's are really wonderful speakers even compared to some other well regarded audiophile speakers out there. Enjoy the music!
