Sorry, but this is a strange problem. Being a cat person, I'm not as familiar with a dog's anatomy.
We recently picked up a lovely pug puppy, named Goblin. Below are some pictures of him/her.
However as you can tell from the last picture, our puppy has something of a nubin down in the groin area. Thus I'm not certain if Goblin is a boy (its sticking out), or a girl (not sticking out enough/far enough forward and no other manly parts evident)

Totally adorable

Here in front of my Sony 53"... have to move those cables now, Goblin shows interest in chewing on them

Another shot. If you know the size of the Sony, you can see how small Goblin is.

And here is the nubin...

Goblin is a real sweetie, be good to her!
A male dog's penis is located about a quarter to a third of the way up his belly from the rear of the dog, and points forward. Since Goblin has almost no fur on her belly, it would be pretty obvious if she were a male.
If you haven't seen it yet, there's a great little movie starring a pug called The Adventures of Milo and Otis.

It's been said before but it's worth saying again. Wow! The things you learn on the home theater forum.

We just got a puppy, a real bundle of joy. He's half Jack Russell, the other half is Border Collie and Australian Shepherd. He takes after the Jack side in terms of size and appearance (his sister looked/sized more like a Border Collie), but he is actually very calm at 10 weeks for a terrier. Most of the time he is content to sit in his little bed and chew a bone. Hopefully he isn't too much of a tornado for us to deal with. Toilet training has still been a mixed bag, though. You have to watch him like a hawk or he'll try to pee a couple of different places in the house.

We're going to put him (and us!) through obedience training, and we're studying the 'Evans guide' to housebreaking this week.

I'll have to try to get some pics online soon.

Definitely a girl puppy. Mighty cute too.

Now for a REAL challenge, try to tell the gender of a 6-8 week old kitten. Magnifying glass, anyone?

Yeah, a girl like everyone says. I remember my g/f and I had trouble identifying the sex of our dog - we looked at 'it' and said, "hey isn't this a male organ?" :D
Well I forsee lots of fun (and frustration, destruction) for you - good luck!!! It's worth it!

Toilet training has still been a mixed bag, though.
My wife and I had the same problem with our Beagle. We finally gave up, and decided to let her pee in the yard. ;)
Seriously though, the two best things to do in regard to house training (in my experience anyway), is to: 1. Take him/her out often (about once an hour), and especially if they begin to sniff the ground and/or walk in circles. 2. Associate a word command with what they're doing. My wife and I sounded ridiculous in our back yard continuously saying,"Maggie, go potty/poop." Then right after saying, "good potty!" But now there are no more accidents, and I can make sure she's prepared for a long stay in the house, or a long car ride by making sure she has relieved herself. "Maggie go potty," and out the door she goes. She of course, expects a treat for performing...
Oh, and the dog is definitely a female (no that is not a penis, and yes, those are nipples... :) :b)

Congrats on the new addition!

We associated the "deed" with the phrase "get going", no strange looks from neighbours and a successfully trained Jack Russel Terrier.

and yes, those are nipples...

Thanks for all the help and compliments.

So do male dogs not have nipples?

Any idea what the best age to spay/neuter the puppy is?

Pugs are cute.
I have a pet Boxer (and had a Border Collie, but someone killed him on the road. :frowning: ) and I think you got a female.
My cousin has a pug named Julius Caesar and he fits the name well.

Ya it's a girl. That nub you are seeing is it's belly button where it might have had a small hernia. It's common to see in young pups.
Yes, male dogs have nipples. They aren't as pronounced as females though.
The best way to spay a dog is to take it to the vet! Do not try this at home.:D
I got my female spay and she really started picking up weight so you have to watch what your dog eats or they could turn into a tellatubby real quick.
I have her on a diet now.
