Seeing as it’s been over two months since the Second Season of IDOJ was released I thought by now we hear of the Third Season being released. I would think it would be prudent to release it around November/December for Christmas which means an announcement should be any time.

The Third Season of IDOJ is one of my favorites cause it is where we meet Jeannie’s sexy vamp of a twin sister, Jeannie II. It also seemed that the show went decidedly kookier than before, but it’s all in fun, and let’s face it: the main reason to watch IDOJ was really to see Barbara Eden prancing around in her sexy costume.

The set also received a makeover with wood paneling going up in the living room and a new window and bar put in between the kitchen and dining area.

These are the episodes that comprise the Third Season with their original air-dates:

Episode #62: “Fly Me to the Moon” 9/12/1967 – NASA is training a chimp to go up on a space flight and Tony is involved in the training. He expresses his frustration with not being able to communicate like he would like with Sam the chimp. Jeannie decides her master would be able to get through his work quicker if he were able to understand the chimp so she changes the chimp into a human. When the higher ups begin wondering where the chimp has gone to Tony realizes what Jeannie has done and when she tries to change the chimp back she accidentally changes Tony into one.

Larry Storch (F Troop) plays the humanized version of Sam the chimp. While filming this episode he had an accident when he caught his hand on a rusty nail that was up in one of the trees he had been sitting in.

Ep. #63: “Jeannie or the Tiger” 9/19/1967 – Jeannie decides to blink her sister, Jeannie II, into town when she realizes she hasn’t seen her in over 2000 years. Jeannie II sees a picture of Tony and decides that she wants him for her master as her own master is an old geezer who uses up all her magic and keeps her stuffed in her bottle all the time. She tricks Jeannie into her own bottle and changes herself to look like Jeannie while putting all the moves on Tony. Surprised at ‘Jeannie’s’ aggressive behavior Tony realizes something is wrong and finally figures out that his own genie has been bottled up.

This is the first episode to feature Jeannie II who is played by Barbara Eden. It should be noted that her name really is just Jeannie but to differentiate her in the scripts she was referred to as Jeannie II. Her character was never listed in the credits.

Ep. #64: “The Second Greatest Con-artist in the World” 9/26/1967 – While Tony is in Hawaii on business he tells Jeannie that he would like her to keep out of sight as she’ll just cause trouble. She promises not to. While interviewing Tony for the newspaper the reporters take notice of a beautiful scarab brooch that Jeannie wearing and they take a photograph of it. A man claiming to be the multi-millionaire Mr. Vanderhaven takes an interest in it and invites Jeannie and Tony aboard his yacht in attempt to get Jeannie to give up the scarab in exchange for other riches. When Jeannie finds out that the man is a fake she lets him have it.

The fake Mr. Vanderhaven is played by legendary comedian Milton Berle.

Hal Cooper plays the driver. He is one of the director’s on IDOJ and was asked to be a last minute replacement when the actor originally chosen wasn’t able to make it in.

Something that I just learned which makes so much sense now is that this episode was part of a three episode Hawaii-centered story arc that was supposed to kick off the third season but NBC decided to split the episodes up. The two other episodes aired later in the season and this should’ve been the second episode out of that collection. Before now I had always thought it weird that they would have Hawaiian episodes aired not close to each other. It’s still weird but at least we know why.

Ep. #65: “My Turned-On Master” 10/3/67 – In an attempt to prove that she could live without her magic Jeannie decides to transfer her powers to someone else and decides her master is the perfect candidate. Of course, she doesn’t tell him and when strange things start happening at the office Tony thinks Jeannie has broken her promise not to use her powers. He also unwittingly transfers the powers to Dr. Bellows who causes all sorts of havoc!

Ep. #66: “My Master, the Weakling” 10/10/67 – Commander Kiski is brought in to shape up the astronauts on a new rigorous exercise program. When Jeannie sees how mean and awful Commander Kiski is she turns his personality into that of a doting mother.

Commander Kiski is played by legendary funny man Don Rickles.

David Soul appears as an orderly. He would later gain fame as part of the duo “Starsky and Hutch”.

Ep. #67: “Jeannie, the Hip Hippie” 10/17/67 – Tony is finagled out of his vacation when Mrs. Bellows ropes him into finding a band to play for a NASA charity bizarre. Jeannie decides to help him by finding four strangers to put together when Tony tells her she can’t just pick someone out of the crowd. When she finds that they are seriously lacking in musical ability she blinks them into a great band and Tony is finally able to leave on his vacation.

The band was played by the musical group Boyce & Hart. They wrote many of the Monkees songs and had hits themselves. They would later play themselves on Bewitched in the Sixth Season in “Serena Stops the Show”.

Famous music producer Phil Spector plays himself. In recent years he has been the focus of an alleged murder that took place at his home.

Ep. #68: “Everybody’s a Movie Star” 10/31/67 – Hollywood director Allan Kerr is brought to NASA to make a movie about the everyday life of astronauts and he decides that Tony would be the perfect candidate for the central subject. Roger, who has stars in his eyes, does everything he can to make himself noticed on the film, and when he overhears Allan telling Dr. Bellows how great Tony is Roger assumes he is being spoken about. He begins to get a really big head and really ruins the shooting for the film when he is finally told that he is no longer needed for the film.

Allan is played by Paul Lynde who was moonlighting from his infrequent stints on “Bewitched” as Uncle Arthur. This is the second appearance he makes on IDOJ.

Ep. #69: “Who Are You Calling a Jeannie?” 11/7/67 – While visiting Tony at NASA Jeannie accidentally gets hit in the head by an opening door and when she awakes from it is found to be suffering from amnesia. A lawyer, who happened to be in the area, says that he is her lawyer and they are going to sue NASA for everything they are worth. Tony tries to get Jeannie to regain her memory as she doesn’t even remember being a genie. When he gets her to try her magic she turns Dr. Bellows into a mouse who in turn is captured by one of the NASA scientists believing the mouse to be part of an experiment that is going up on the next space mission. While Roger and Tony try to get Jeannie to regain her memory they also have to stop the shuttle. Finally Jeannie hits her head again (on Roger’s as they both bend over to pick up a coin) and she blinks Dr. Bellows back to his original form who cannot explain how he ended up on the space capsule.

Richard Deacon guest stars as the lawyer. He is familiar to TV audiences as Mel Cooley from “The Dick Van Dyke Show”.

Ep. #70: “Meet My Master’s Mother” 11/14/67 – Tony’s mother drops in for a visit which means Jeannie has to stay hidden. Mother Nelson tells Tony that he doesn’t look like he is being taken care of and that he needs to find a nice girl to settle down with. Jeannie wants to be that girl but Tony won’t have it. Mother Nelson says she is going to stay at his home to take care of him until he does find a girl and this doesn’t make Jeannie happy at all who tries everything she can to get Mother Nelson to leave.

This is the first time Tony’s mother has a speaking role on the show. She was briefly seen in the First Season episode “Too Many Tonys” at the wedding, though she was played by a different actress.

Ep. #71: “Here Comes Bootsie Nightingale” 11/21/67 – Blonde movie starlet Bootsie Nightingale is a guest a NASA benefit and she takes a liking to Tony, who has attended without Jeannie, whom he lied to. When she finds out that he went without her in order to meet Bootsie she pops in and creates havoc at the benefit.

Bootsie was played by Carol Wayne, a popular guest star on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show.

Ep. #72: “Tony’s Wife” 11/28/67 – Jeannie II returns in another attempt to snatch Tony away from her sister. She tells Jeannie that she has been born under the terrible sign of the Jinx and will cause horrible luck for Tony if she doesn’t leave him for the next 16 years. Jeannie believes her sister and decides that she should leave but figures that he should at least have a wife to take care of him while she is gone so she sets him up on a date. Jeannie II tries to break the date up and get Tony for herself but Tony thinks it’s Jeannie causing all the problems. She finally reveals what her sister told her and Tony tells Jeannie that she shouldn’t have listened to her sister and they plot to capture her, which they do in a perfume bottle.

The scene shown where Jeannie II is in the perfume bottle with her screaming to get out wasn’t acting on Barbara Eden’s part. Apparently the director decided to play a practical joke on her and when they put her in the bottle they left the room while the cameras were still rolling.

Ep. #73: “Jeannie and the Great Bank Robbery” 12/5/67 – Tony tells Jeannie that he would like her to go help someone else for the day as he is really busy. She comes across two men in a park who are discussing how they have been unable to get money out of a bank. She doesn’t realize they are robbers and she offers to help them.

Ep. #74: “My Son, the Genie” 12/12/67 – Jeannie is assigned to be an instructor to a genie-in-training named Harold. He is the son of the master of all the genies Hadji. Harold is terrible at being a genie and causes all sorts of trouble which makes Tony very nervous as the President of the United States will be making a house call soon!

Bob Denver (TV’s Gilligan) plays Harold. Gilligan’s Island was cancelled only the previous season.

Ep. #75: “Jeannie Goes to Honolulu” 12/26/67 – Roger and Tony are sent on an assignment to Hawaii. Tony decides he’d like to be able to meet some girls there without Jeannie interfering so he tells her that he has been assigned to the North Pole. As she doesn’t like the cold she is content to stay at home. In Honolulu Tony meets a girl who happens to be the daughter of a general. When Jeannie sees a picture of the two she is furious and blinks over to Hawaii ready to give Tony what for. He tells her he has been assigned to protect the girl from a spy, whom he says everybody calls “Don Ho”.

Don Ho plays himself in this episode and sings two songs. This was to be the Season Opener but NBC mixed the schedule around.

Series creator Sidney Sheldon’s mother and aunt also appear in this episode as patrons of the nightclub.

Ep. #76: “The Battle of Waikiki” 1/2/68 – Jeannie brings King Kamehameha back to life to show him what Hawaii looks like in the modern day. The King feels that the Hawaiian people have forgotten him so he plans to take over the islands again.

King Kamehameha is played by Michael Ansara, Barbara Eden’s husband. This is the last of the Hawaiian episodes.

Ep. #77: “Genie, Genie, Who’s Got the Genie” Part 1 1/16/68 – Jeannie finds herself locked in a safe that is headed to the moon with various items in it for testing. When Tony tries to find out the combination to the lock before the safe goes up he is told that only the President of the United States knows it and therefore he won’t be told. He is also told that the safe has an explosive devise armed on it to prevent tampering. Tony is heartbroken when he thinks that the safe has actually been launched when Roger tells him that he switched the safe out for something that looked quite similar.

This is the first of a four part episode. It also launched a viewer contest to guess the numbers to the combination and send them in on a postcard. The winner would be announced on the last episode.

Ep. #78: “Genie, Genie, Who’s Got the Genie” Part 2 1/23/68 – Tony hires safe crackers to get into the safe but ends up losing the safe as the safe crackers are also thieves. When they find that there is a bomb in the safe that has just been set to go off they pawn it off. The pawn shop calls NASA and informs them of the safe. Dr. Bellows, thinking it’s a prank, tells them to junk it. Tony overhears the conversation and heads to the junkyard only to see the safe get crushed…or so he thinks. It turns out that it fell off the belt just at the right moment and he takes it back to his office.

Ep. #79: “Genie, Genie, Who’s Got the Genie” Part 3 1/30/68 – Jeannie II pops in and finds out about her trapped sister and decides this will be the perfect time to make Tony her master. At the same time Tony is given traveling orders which end up being the Middle East when Jeannie II gets her way. Disguising her voice as Jeannie, Jeannie II tells Tony he must find Hadji there and get him to release her. While in the Middle East Tony is led where he thinks is to Hadji but it turns out it is Jeannie II’s current master’s palace. She plans to keep Tony as a pet. Roger finds out from Jeannie what is going on and he goes to the Middle East and he is captured as a pet by Jeannie II: she keeps both of them in a bird cage. When her master returns he is furious with her and demands that she give them one wish before he sends them home and kills her. Roger stupidly says he wishes her master wouldn’t do that. Tony is furious that Roger blew the wish as they could’ve got Jeannie out of the safe.

Ted Cassidy plays Jeannie II’s master. He is familiar to TV audiences as Lurch from “The Addams Family”.

Mike Farrell plays a NASA officer. He went on to play BJ Hunnicutt on M*A*S*H.

Ep. #80: “Genie, Genie, Who’s Got the Genie” Part 4 2/6/68 – Jeannie reveals that if a genie is “bottled” up for the space of a month her master relinquishes his rights to her and whoever opens up the “bottled” Jeannie will be her new master. On top of that the safe is still set to explode. Dr. Bellows calls in a demolition expert to try and defuse the mechanism. Tony manages to switch the safe out for an ice cream vendor’s cart and takes the safe home. He also kidnaps the demo expert and talks him into defusing the safe for him but to not open it. Tony feels that once the demo expert has drilled holes in the safe Jeannie can just smoke out. But in moving the safe something hits Jeannie on the head knocking her out. At the very last minute the demo expert can’t open it and Tony figures out the combo. Jeannie awakes and pops out and all is good in the world again!

The combo was revealed to be 4-9-7. When Tony says the numbers his face was partially blocked out and the numbers were dubbed in almost at the last second. During the end credits of this episode the winner of the contest was announced. It would be cool if Sony would include them but I’m sure they haven’t been seen since the original broadcast.

Ep. #81: “Please Don’t Feed the Astronauts” 2/13/68 – Commander Potter is brought in to put the astronauts under a rigorous exercise program plus a survival test. Jeannie, feeling bad for her master, blinks up all sorts of things to drive the Commander insane.

Ted Cassidy plays Jeannie’s cousin Hamid in this episode. He is TV’s Lurch.

Paul Lynde appears once again. He plays Commander Potter.

One of the worst special effects was seen in this episode where Jeannie blinks up a giant chicken. The chicken is seen sitting on a fence and just briefly you can see a hand come up behind it to push it to get it all riled up.

Ep. #82: “My Master, the Ghostbreaker” 2/20/68 – Tony finds that he has inherited an English estate and so he, Roger and Jeannie go to check it out. While there they find that the estate is said to be haunted. In reality, the estate owners want to keep it for themselves but Jeannie spooks them with her magic.

This storyline seems to be directly ripped from the Munster’s feature film “Munster, Go Home”. It’s also odd that they wouldn’t air it around Halloween as it’s a spooky episode.

Ep. #83: “Divorce, Genie Style” 2/27/68 – Amanda Bellows discovers that Jeannie lives with Tony and believes that he has been hiding a secret wife whom he treats like a slave. She talks Jeannie into getting a divorce and Tony has to prove that what Amanda believes isn’t true.

This is the first time Jeannie meets Mrs. Bellows. Of course, when she meets her again in the Fifth Season Amanda has forgotten.

Ep. #84: “My Double-Crossing Master” 3/5/68 – Roger tells Tony that he puts too much trust in Jeannie not falling for another man. To prove Roger wrong Tony dresses as an English officer and finds that he is wrong as Jeannie falls for this “new” man. Of course, Jeannie realizes who it is the whole time.

Ep. #85: “Have You Ever Had a Jeannie Hate You?” 3/12/68 – Jeannie II arrives bearing gifts for Jeannie’s birthday, even though it isn’t her birthday….yet. She has two bottles of lotion. One will make her fall more in love with her master and the other will make her hate his enemies more. While Jeannie isn’t looking Jeannie II switches the bottles so that when she puts on Tony what she thinks is the love lotion (do I dare use that phrase?) it really is the hate lotion and she plans to kill her master. Tony can’t figure out what has gone wrong. When Roger tries on the other potion Jeannie falls in love with him and he becomes her master. Tony figures out what has gone wrong and tells Jeannie II that he’ll be her master now if he can just go to visit Jeannie one last time. He gives her the love potion asking her not to put it on him but he does and she returns to normal.

Ep. #86: “Operation: First Couple on the Moon” 3/19/68 – NASA plans on sending up the first man-woman couple to the moon and Tony is selected to go. Jeannie, not wanting her master to be alone with another woman so long, worries about this until Jeannie II pops in and says she’ll take care of everything. She disguises herself as a scientist and gets selected to go until she makes a mess of everything.

Ep. #87: “Haven’t I Seen Me Some Place Before?” 3/26/68 – For Roger’s birthday Jeannie gives him the gift of one wish. Roger wants time to think about what he’ll wish for but when he hears that Tony has been selected to go up on a space mission he wishes he could be Tony…and he is! He and Tony switch bodies and Tony has to figure out how to get his own body back when Roger won’t take back his wish.

This is the last episode of the Third Season.

Yesterday I watched Larry Hagman's Biography and during the segments about IDOJ they showed RARE clips from promos and such.

The first was the NBC 1965 Fall Preview hosted by Maxwell Smart of "Get Smart". He said he assignment was to unlock the secrets of NBC's fall lineup and he described the series while clips of the pilot episode played in the background.

The second clip was a promo for IDOJ where it spoke a little about Jeannie.

The third came from the Fourth Season when they had a contest to figure out where in the world Major Nelson was being hidden as part of the promo celebrating the 100th episode two parter "The Case of My Vanishing Master". It has Jeannie asking if we know where in the world her master is while she is standing next to a globe. She then says to write your guess on a postcard and send it to the address shown on a card leaning against the globe. The winner received a trip for two around the world.

I have never seen any Jeannie extras like this and I'm glad to know they are in existence! Of course, with Sony, they'll never see the light of day on DVD but we can always hope!

It's been 113 days since IDOJ s.2 was released and no sign of Season 3 on the horizon! I wonder what the hold up is?

I doubt that the season will be released before the first quarter of 2007. Gord can probably confirm this but Sony Pictures Entertainment Corp has been leapfrogging the releases by alternating IDoJ with Bewitched.

Just as long as it eventually comes out, even if it's not till spring. I just want all five seasons of this show! They better not abandon it.

Gord, any word at all on this show yet?

Of course, the most notable thing about the 3rd season of this show is that Jeannie sometimes can be seen wearing miniskirts. :emoji_thumbsup:

I just found an interesting rumor posted on Sept. 20 over at the Jeannie Journal....it says:

I certainly hope this is true that there is a new artist, especially because I believe it would be the same person that designed the BW discs and those bug me what with all the wrong season pictures being used.

The link to the Jeannie Journal is http://www.jeanniebottlereview.com/j...ws&new_topic=7

Cool countdown clock. Thanks! I just purchased I Dream of Jeannie yesterday, so hopefully that means an announcement about Bewitched Season 5 isn't far behind...yeah, yeah, I know, this belongs in the Bewitched thread...

I pre ordered this set from Amazon, as it is the cheapest place that I can find it + they have free shipping. I just also found out they have "I Love Lucy" Season 7-9 for pre order for March, 13. They are calling it "I Love Lucy" although it was originally aired as "The Lucy-Desi Comedy hour. I can't wait to have both of these great sets added to my collection!!!

Sitcoms Online has their review up for S3.

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/idreamo...dvdreview.html

I do have a question on S2, are all the episodes completely unedited? There's no missing dialogue or music replacement and such on this release? The reason I'm asking is because someone on Amazon said there are some lines of dialogue (and some missing footage) cut from some second season episodes. Ones that were mention were "My Master, The Rainmaker" and "The Mod Party".

Also, I don't know if anyone answered this from a previous thread:

The Sammy Davis Jr. episode is one of my favorite episodes of "I Dream of Jeannie", so I would hate to see anything edited.
