I'm not complaining, but I just can't get over my wife. When I first approached her with the idea of adding an HT to our new home, she said it was a waste of money, but agreed we could spend $299 or so on an AIWA mini home theater... one "with a lot of pretty flashing lights", she said.

When I came home with my Onkyo 494 and Polk tower speakers, she nearly fainted, and predicted the speakers would be like the treadmill...a good place to toss clothes.

When I approached her about adding a sub, she offered to stand aside the TV during movies and bang on a plastic bucket instead.

Tonight I come home and there's my wife, sitting behind the rack of audio equipment hooking up the sub after moving it because "the acoustics in the other corner are better".

She comes out from behind the rack and suggests we ought to look into some dampening to improve the acoustics, and proceeds to tell me she's no longer happy with the Onkyo 494 because it sounds "murky".

Murky? Yes, she continues, "I was at CC this morning giving the H/K 325 a demo and it sounds clean and true".

Whoa!

I said wait a minute, that thing is like $700 or something. She says "it's $499 at Costco and I think we should get it."

I'm totally speechless at this point, but I managed to stutter out the words to ask her where she heard that.

"At hometheaterforum.com" she said.

I learned two very important things today. My wife is even cooler than I've ever given her credit for...and I really better watch what I say around here :)

Carl, your wife rules. :) You can tell her I said that.

While my wife doesn't get into the nitty gritty details with me, she puts up with my expensive hobbies and only says, "Cool. Have fun." I've even caught her enjoying the theater with "the girls" at a respectible volume level a time or two. ;) If she ever came to me insisting on an upgrade -- after doing research, no less! -- I would think I'd died and gone to heaven.

You know Carl, that sort of post is like pornography for male home theater fanatics.

...And she goes "I think we better get out the SPL meter". :D

All due respect, she sounds very cool!

Carl, you need to find out what she did with your real wife. I'd check the back yard for shallow graves if I were you.

Brian, I concur. This can't be real; an obvious troll. Just kidding.

Carl, I hope that when you folks calibrate, you reach eleven.

You should have agreed to it just so you could get some pictures of her doing that, would have been hilarious!

If she watches television, now would be a good time to propose a PVR system to pause/rewind/record programming. Of all my HT toys, the PVR is the only thing I have ever heard my wife brag about to co-workers.

She sounds like a 'keeper'. You should take her on a nice vacation to someplace warm. (Yes, she DID pay me to say that.)

Your wife is a true diamond in the rough. Nothing holds a relationship together like common interests.

If I give your wife my girlfriends e-mail address, can she convince her that I need a new TV? My 8-year old 27" ProScan has seen much better days. The overscan has become unmanageable, I'm looking at a 34" widescreen HDTV-ready Samsung. :D

I'm not married, but I've had my share of girlfriends.

Very few (if any) of them have actually appreciated a good surround sound HT system.

One girl I dated this past summer took to calling me an "AV Snob" because I wouldn't watch her VHS copies of movies, and opted to rent the DVD instead. She also stared aghast at my face when I mentioned that I enjoyed my surround sound speaker system. I felt like I was trying to convince a 2 year old that a medium-cooked New York Steak was better dinner than cereal. She just didn't get it. We broke up (not marriage material... I couldn't handle a girl who doesn't understand HT. :D).

Another girl I dated in September had a full high-quality HT System in her family's basement, but insisted on watching everything in Stereo mode. She also preferred Full-Screen over Widescreen because it "Filled the whole Screen" on her 60" Projecting TV. Sigh... that didn't work out either.

Next girl I dated in November/December insisted on watching Bridget Jones on VHS. When I suggested we rent the DVD, she insisted that her VHS copy was "just fine, thank you very much". Ugh. Next!

The Girl I'm dating now was quite impressed with "The Emperor's New Groove" on my system. She even commented that she thought the surround sound was "cool!". Good start. ;)

Moe the AV-Snob.

I need a new subwoofer. Will she come to my house and do that? :D

My wife likes our home theater but won't even watch a DVD when I'm not there. She also doesn't understand the need to upgrade to better components. I was reading an article in the latest Home Theater about the B&W CDM 9NT speakers. In between wiping the drool off of my face I told her "this is what I'd like to get" and she said "what's wrong with the speakers you have?" (B&W DM604). I don't think I'm going to be getting those speakers any time soon.

My girlfriend manages our Netflix cue. She only buys or rents widescreen editions. She looks for DTS when it's available.

She complained that a new import DVD she recently picked up wasn't anamorphic.

She rules.

wow...what planet are you from?? If I could get my wife to even come home from the horse barn it would be a miracle. Seems we have 2 different ideas of fun, mine is to sit and watch a flick on the HT and drink beer, hers is to go into sub zero temps, clean and saddle her horse, and ride in circles for an hour.
When I got myself a new reciever her response was.."yeah, it sounds better sure honey. Thats nice dear."

Same here. I got a Tivo for christmas, she got a digital camera. I've used the camera more than she, she uses the Tivo more than I. :)

That line about banging a plastic bucket was the funniest thing I've read in a long time.
