First off, i've never been crazy about these types of comedies. I hated both 'Scary Movie' films, but I cannot stop watching this one! Go figure. Personally I think it's brilliant, low brow and crude at times, but brilliant. Now don't laugh, but i've seen all of the films this movie busts on and am very familliar with all of them and got every joke in this movie. What can I say, i'm the bastard son of the 80's and John Hughes. :)
Every charactor in the movie was dead on, especially the guy who is supposed to be the Freddy Prinze Jr. charactor from She's All That, that shot when he first walks into the school and looks at a picture of himself then turns around with that I -know-i'm-so-cool smirk on his face gets me everytime!
It's becoming one of those films like Office Space and There's Something About Mary where the repeatability factor is through the roof! I've watched it 5 times since buying it 2 weeks ago, 7 if you count the commentary tracks! :b The cast commentary track is of the best sort, it's fun listening to them just hang out and have fun talking about their movie. Besides Chyler Leigh does this really cute thing with her voice on that track that drives me wild. :) She's so hot!

So please tell me i'm not alone in this, PLEASE! I don't want to be the only loser with no taste here! ;)

Amen to that...just because I don't like the movie doesn't mean that I don't like Chyler :)

John,
I got a lot of good-natured flack for giving this movie my recommendation when it hit theaters. And I think it DEFINITELY gets better with repeat viewings.
I haven't seen the DVD features yet, but your enthusiasm has convinved me to get hold of the disc.
Glad to see you found a spoof you enjoyed! :)
P.S. The girl I came away in love with: Mia Kirshner! WOW! Is she gorgeous or WHAT? :D :emoji_thumbsup:

Scott, if Mia were in another film WITHOUT Chyler, I would probably agree with you, but as it stands, oddly enough, I didn't find her that appealing in this movie, too much, and too easy I guess. Mia Kirshner is a hottie though, no denying that.
But Chyler has that underlying sexuality where you can see she's a naughty girl, but she just doesn't realize it yet. When you get the dvd, watch her carefully right in the beginnng of the movie when she first turns on the vibrator, she does this hot little sshhhh thing with her lips that drives me insane!

I just stare at her like a cat on the prowl who has just spotted a mouse!

Well, I'm just happy that fate has made it so that you, a person who loves the film, is seeing it a lot while I, a person who hated it, was able to return the rental after only 1 viewing.
Who says life isn't fair? :D
Sorry I can't share your enthusiasm, but I found a lot of the jokes to be less funny than the stuff they were making fun of. Just because you can reference something doesn't automatically make it a FUNNY reference. Example - I found the "Janie's Got a Gun" gag to be pretty blah, despite such an obvious reference.
However, I did like the line (and had been wanting to hear someone say it for years) about "who would have thought that all these high school kids were professional dancers?" :)

You're not alone.

I'm a child of the 80s, especially 80s film, particularly the teen films of that time. For this reason alone NATM is hysterical. Many of the jokes are subtle without obvious dialogue to draw attention to them, residing in the background of a scene. Every aspect of the teen films are lambasted to great effect. Tongue planted firmly in cheek all the way throughout.

Best choice they made for this film was to shoot it as an R movie; with the limitations of the PG13 rating it would have become stupid. With the freedom to take on subjects and language under R, utterly hysterical.

I also loved this movie. But I also loved both Scary Movies (1st is much better than 2nd). I also loved both American Pie movies too....

Just once... I wish someone would take a dump on my chest.:frowning:
I was mildly amused with this the first time I watched it (alone), but I watched it later with friends and it was better. Now, even talking about certain scenes with people gets me laughing. It really grew on me.

This movie gets better and better with repeated viewings. Take careful look and all the signs and banners in the movie. They are hysterical.

Wow... thank you John for posting this. I just watched it Friday for the 1st time. I didn't watch it before because, well, I thought it would be stupid, especially after most of the reviews. I wanted to tell people how funny this was, but I didn't understand all of the terrible reviews.
I cannot believe how funny this movie was. Obviously you had to see most, if not all, of the movies they mocked to understand most of the humor. (Not that that makes it funny, but for me, it did.) I was in pain laughing so hard at this movie. I had an embarrasing love for Bring it On when it first came out, and they referenced that movie a lot. (We... are... North Compton High.... We're black... we're not white... :D) There are so many scenes in this movie that were absolutely hilarious I am going out to buy this movie soon.
I thought it was hilarious how they managed to fit Jake's character from so many movies (She's All That, 16 Candles, Varsity Blues....) And just seeing Molly Ringwald was gut-wrenchingly hilarious. And the Lucas/Rudy scene... man this movie was hilarious. :D :D :D

Ok. I'm going to give this one a shot. I've been kinda in the mood for a low brow comedy anyway :) You guys that like Mia Kirshner should check out Atom Egoyan's Exotica It's a pretty good film too.

This is the kind of movie you need to watch with a lot of friends who are skilled at the art of wisecrackery.
Also, no one has mentioned Lacey Chabert as of yet (though she did have a really minor part and some of the worst lines in the movie). She's been overlooked since Party of Five. Damn JLH for stealing the limelight.
If you watch the ending without Molly Ringwald in the deleted scenes, you will appreciate her cameo much, much more.
The movie wasn't really all that funny, but I really did appreciate some of the subtle references, like the store named "Spicole's".

I love Chyler Leigh .......... oh yes I think it is more of a scary crush! :D
You are not alone, I have watched scare movie many a times, just to see here. On the DVD you need to watch the marlyn manson video.....one word "WOW" especially if you like Chyler Leigh....you get to see her...well I won't ruin it for yeah.
She was also on the tv show That 70's show as the punk rocker,,,,the only reason I watched the show....If it came out on DVD I would buy it just for her!
Yes folks I have a problem and her name is Chyler Leigh! But it is a good problem right :D
R~
