Tony, I would suggest talking to MS CS or checking their library of Q&A's...

My first question, however, is what type of XP are you running? Is it registered, or is it one of the corporate versions that were released? I'm not insinuating anything, but if that were the situation, that might be why.

Tried it and seemed to be fine on my XP, but it did ask to do a couple of new active X stuff, so if your security is set to not doing active X, you may be out of luck.

When I try Windows Update (XP) it hangs at 0% when scanning for updates.

This used to work when I first purchased XP but just stopped one day.

Since then, I've done a complete reinstall....but still no luck.

Any ideas?

It's hard to know whether this is at the MS end, but I too cud not get the Update Page (per Tony's prompt quote) earlier.

Today it went thru for my W98SE OS. First with a Do You Want to Take This Survey (I passed) then offered 9 security updates incl the Critical Update Notification 4.0.

I took all 9, but on clicking the prompt for Restart, I got an Error Report--Notify MS? which I chose, but then I had to manually Restart. Booting up, I finally saw the Windows Setting reconfig bar which closed.

Whew

steve-ch i just went and activated active x things so i'll see what that does.

steveblair. i'm not going to complete reinstall as i have no idea how i would do that and would rather not do anything that would zotz my entire pc.
but i don't hang at 0 percent i get past that it just gives me an error messae with no error # or code.
