I can't get Max Payne to install on my computer. What's wrong? (1 Viewer)

I hit the install button and it suggests that I install Direct X 8.0, and when I hit the "OK" button the CD-ROM spins but nothing happens. What do I do?

More than likely it's the SafeDisc copy protection (you know the stuff that doesn't deter pirates, but gives fits to people who bought the game).
Do you have a second CD-ROM in your machine to try it on? If not, you might try to copy the contents of the CD to your harddrive and try running the install from there.
I hate SafeDisc.

Please excuse my ignorance, but how do I copy the contents of the CD to my HD?

Just go to http://www.downloads.com and type Direct X in the search box. Select the link that goes with your opearting system.

As well as installing the current DirectX, you'll need to get the absolutely most recent drivers for your graphics card as well; DX 8 games are pretty picky about that.

DirectX 8 is included on the Max Payne CD-Rom. Just browse the CD and find it, install it, then Max will install fine. I too ran into this problem.

DirectX 8.0 was not loading from the CD, so I went to the microsoft website and downloaded it, which allowed me to complete the install.
