Ooops! Sorry Malcolm, I didn't realize that was the same link! When I tried your link before I got a 404 (probably my flaky connection). Not trying to steal your thunder!

All I can say is those responsible don't stand a chance because if it were my daughter undergoing that, I wouldn't rest until their heads were on a platter.

Hi Max. Not really worried about the thunder, but just wondered if I screwed up something so that the link didn't work for anyone but me.

This is bloody amazing!! I would have expected this in some third world country like China or India, but in the US? You've got to be kidding me.
How does hung, drawn, and quartered strike you?? I just saw that it was a woman - if it was a man, oops male person, i'm telling you the shit would have hit the fan and broke the ceiling by now!
"weighed the severity of the allegations and concerns of those involved." WTF?? What are they waiting for? Christmas?
And if last year's event had a girl showing herself on stage, what makes them think someone doing that couldn't have worn white cottons? *blech*
Mark

My point, which I wasn't very clear on, was that there are many invasions of privacy we are subject to with varying levels of necessity. Would you say it is wrong to search students for concealed weapons or drugs? Would it be wrong for a gym teacher to measure your weight? Wrong to have a dress code forbidding low-cut blouses, miniskirts, no bra, etc.?
Searching for concealed weapons or drugs, within reason (a pat-down, or going through a backpack, is enough) and only if called for (don't just randomly search people without cause) is fine. Dress codes exist for a reason, but underwear should never be part of that dress code. It doesn't matter what sort of underwear you're wearing (or even whether you're wearing any at all), because nobody can see it anyway. Same thing with bras. Now, I would submit that if a girl came to school without a bra and you could plainly see her nipples to the point that it was pornographic, then yes, send her home and make her either put on a bra or a more appropriate shirt. But you don't go removing layers of clothing to make sure what's underneath is appropriate. If it looks decent from the outside, then that's all that matters. Period.

No justice in this world I tell ya, no justice.
This is usually true when public schools are involved. Here in Seattle an honor student showed up 20 minutes late to a test (I forget the reason, but I think it had to do with some other school/college work), and as a result they will not let her graduate. Had she taken the test and flunked it, she would have passed the class just fine, but the school felt that they needed to "uphold their high standards" by not allowing this honor student to graduate. But where are these "high standards" when an assistant principle starts doing impromptu thong checks at a school dance? These incidents are usually "unfortunate", but forgivable.

As far as the punishment goes, she is demoted from an assistant principle to a regular teacher, giving her more direct access to the students. Is this a good thing?

I'll tell you the real injustice in all of this: I haven't
been able to find even one picture. :)

I would rather not go into details, but I can speak from experience as a student who has had the unfortunate experience of being made an example. I was expelled from public high school my senior year (got to finish my work from home and still graduate) yet many students before and since have committed similar or worse infractions, but what I (and two other students who got the same punishment) did was a pet cause for the school board.

Rita Wilson's thong check April 26 in front of male students and adults had enraged parents, one of whom threatened to sue.
Priceless. Just priceless. Threatened to sue. Aaaargh.
I hate it because this is simply not justice. I can't even believe i have never heard of this incident outside of this board.
Oh, and i can bet quite a few of us were geeks in school and were made examples of, either by authorities or bullies. Who gets to surf the net all day at work now, eh? Not the sods working in menial jobs or the cheerleader still working at the grocery store in her hometown! :D

Like others where, I can't imagine why these girls would even submit to such a search.
"told those wearing thongs to go home and change"
My response to her: "Excuse me? You don't worry about what I'm wearing."
"Wilson said she was concerned the combination of revealing clothing and suggestive dancing could lead to sexual assaults."
So, in order to prevent laws being broken, you break the law. I see.

This is absolutly terrifying!
No school has the right to know what under garments you are wearing. Having youngsters expose themselves to see what "panties or shorts" they are wearing is in my eyes a criminal act. How humiliating.
When I was in school I was portly I didn't get thin until I was around 22 or so. I can't imagine how I would have felt if a teacher asked me to lift up my skirt to show her my underwear infront of a bunch of other gaping students. Doesn't matter if other students were present or not, she didn't have the right to see what the kids had on underneath their clothing.
One could wear 5 pairs of panties and still take them off at a dance if they felt the desire to do so. Wearing a thong doesn't mean you are going to take it off just because it's a little skimpier.
I am OUTRAGED at this, and think the parents should file criminal charges against those involved.
