I'm an upgradaholic. I just can't enjoy what I have, I need more. Currently my setup consits of a Denon 1801, Paradigm Mini Monitors, CC-350 and PS-1000, which in my opinion sounds leap years better than any Theatre(AMC, Famous, etc). Lately I have had this urge to upgrade to an AMP to power the fronts, but the price was just too much($1200+CDN). Then I came across the new Rotel RMB-1066 which is replacing the RB-976MkII. List price $999CDN for 6x60W bridgeable to 3x150W. WIth only 2 dealers in my area I was able to get one down to $875CDN/$566US. So I bought it and now I have too sneek it into the house and hook it up before she catches me. I'm so dead if I get caught.

upgrades (my meaning: replacing one component with a better version of the same thing) are easier to hide than additions (what your doing). ive done them both. she IS going to notice the new amp.
    good luck. [IMG]

You ARE selling your old one? Just let her know what a good price you got for it.

Oh man. WAF is poor on that one. Looks like a risky operation. It depends where you put the thing, I guess.

Think I'll be hiding it in the corner behind the movie stand. As long as she doesn't see me turning it on then I'm safe. When it comes to cable for hooking up to the reciever do I splurge for good ones?

It CAN be done. I snuck in the Monster Power HTS5000 and that thing has lights on all the time. Got by with changing the Velo 12" for the 15" too and that thing is a LOT bigger.
    Good Luck,
    Russ

I am a big upgradeaholic and the treatment is expensive. I just picked up the Marantz SR7200 to replace the SR7000. They look so much alike the wife didn't even notice! Now i have componet video switching, 6.1 surround, and Dolby Pro-LogicII plus an extra 10 watts a channel. She thinks the rear center channel is just another speaker i added to my SR7000! Man if she only knew some of the upgrades i have made..............

    Don,
I am in the same boat with my 13 year old son who loves watching movies on the system. He knows how to work it all but I'll have too tell him to turn on the amp otherwise he gets no sound out of the fronts.

Ditto Hank's comment. Take her out or shopping and don't buy sexy underwear or anything like that, it just won't cut it.

My wife cought me red handed doing this. I bought a Denon AVR-4800 to replace my AVR-1601....did the swap while she was at work and just kept quiet. She came home and went to put in a movie for our daughter and there it was.....didn't take here long to see the difference. But that was the end of it.....no big deal or shock......I think she is used to it now.

I'm not married, but I do have to watch my upgrading/adding around my girlfriend. Actually, she is very good about the whole thing, but she is observant. Recently, I made the mistake of telling her that I was going into a moratorium with the A/V gear for awhile since I bought new speakers recently. So, I'm kind of stuck now. If I buy something, she will absolutely notice it (and I might want to brag about it to her), and I will be going against my word. Me and my big mouth. [IMG]
I've been toying with the idea of replacing the Sony CDP-CA80ES CD changer in my home theater with a Sony SCD-C222ES multi-channel SACD changer. The 'C222ES would go right on the shelf in the entertainment center where the 'CA80ES is now, and the players look similar enough from afar. However, I'm sure my girlfriend would notice the switch. And, I would want to use it around her and give her a demo of multi-channel SACD. Looks like I'm not getting it for awhile. That's alright. I'll just wait for more multi-channel SACDs to come out. Who knows what will happen if I wait. In time, the 'CA80ES might "break", "necessitating" the purchase of the 'C222ES. [IMG]

Well, you could always buy a "spouse house" for the backyard. That might be your home until she calms down from the new purchase.
