I had heard that frozen candy bars, dipped in batter (like you would use on fish) worked pretty well too.
food 911 just did a thing on fish 'n' chips - he dunked the mars bar while he was at it.
twinkies! - i had a deep fried one at my state fair. it was okay, but i suspect the oil was kind of gnarly. in a fresh brew i bet i would have gone for seconds!

Gah! All the fried food... Just hearing about this makes my arteries slowly close up. :) Someone mentioned many posts back something about Deep-fried Ice Cream, which for the life of me, I'll never understand how they do that. It's kinda like a baked Alaska, I imagine, with crispy outside and cool inside? I think Chilli's or another Mexican Restaurant used to promote that as their best dessert. While there's no way in hell I'm ever gonna kill myself by getting one of these deep fryers, my interest is piqued - where can I get some good deep fried icecream?!! :D

Isn't fried ice cream a Japanese thing? I think most Japanese restaurants have it.

The thing with fried ice cream is, the ice cream has to be pretty frozen before you fry it. Considering it's ice cream, you don't fry it too long (as you see in Scooter's post). The coating will create a sort of crust around the ice cream ball and the melted ice cream will stay inside.

The best part is the ice cream melts somewhat, yet there is still a cold part in the center.

Mmmm!

Here's your twinkie's secret: freeze the things solid before you fry em, then dip em in tempura batter. 10-15 seconds just like the ice cream and bingo, they are ready to go.
If you wanted to Scootersize that order, you could find some chocodiles (waxy chocolate dipped twinkies) and fry those as well.
Ugh, my arteries are hardening just imagining it ;)

Considering your love for fried foods Scooter, you should take a field trip out here to St. Paul for the Minnesota State Fair. They fry everything, and it is all good and fresh and no clean up!!! Last year's big hit was fried candy bars...snickers and milky ways especially. Very good, highly recommended.
