Hi all, I have a question about an older release (which is new to me though!):

If any of you have this (the anamorphic version of the DVD), can you tell me what I'm seeing at 55:13? This is the scene where an admiral and a captain are asking Ryan about what he thinks Ramius is planning to do. The camera pans and a weird stretch effect seems to happen, then we're back to normal.

Anyone else see this with their disc and player? What is it?

It's probably a rack focus. Anamorphic lenses will have a "bump" when a rack focus is used. Either that or it sounds like a wide angle lens was used.

There are a number of not so perfect video moments in the new version, but I forgive them all. It's Red October - my #1 Sub Movie!

Thank you! The camera does indeed change focus, which is accompanied by a slight vertical compression. The explanation with the anamorphic lens makes sense to me.
