Huh? You would have to have an HD screen to get the full benefit of an HD picutre....

As it is on other networks, no, only select shows are broadcast in HD. All programming is broadcast digitally, but not everything is in full HD resolution. CBS does the best job of putting most of their shows in HD, but ABC, NBC and the WB only do select shows. Fox will probably follow suit.

I wouldn't say ABC does "select" shows, they have almost as many shows in HD as CBS and shouldn't be lumped into the category with NBC and WB.

For broadcasting 720p can edge out 1080i overall due to certain technical reasons. 720p also is not filtered to minimize interlacing artifacts as is 1080i, because it is pure progressive to start with. It's also more film-like.

However, all stations should have been using the top ATSC resolution of 1080p/60 from day one. It's possible to do, and can digitally compress much easier than 1080i/30.

Hopefully HD discs will use true 1920x1080p in some form or another.

1080p/60 is not in A/53 Table 3 and therefore it is not an ATSC resolution. 1080p/30 and 1080p/24 are included, but not 1080p/60.

ESPN is now offering the ESPN HD channel which will include Sunday night NFL games!!! DirecTV worked out a deal with them and has been broadcasting it since July 1st.
They are still negotiating with Dish Network. (see ESPN.com)
ESPN says that 720p is more costly to produce on their end but they think it is better with fast moving sports.
Personally, 1080i on my 56" Toshiba looks unbelievable even with the NFL playoff games last year. It is hard to believe that something could look even better than that.
