Im a regular over at the AVSforums and the guys over there talked me into building a HTPC. I really didnt need one to do the regular HTPC things like record OTA HD and things like that, I just wanted a DVD player and to be able to play WMVHD dvd's. I just finished building it this past weekend and got it running, but i've decided I dont need this much when in my case all I would need is a new DVD player. This is what I built:
Uneed X11 case (silver) w/ LCD & matching media card reader
AMD X2 4200+
1gb OCZ pc-3200 RAM
250 WD caviar HD (16mb cache)
ATI X850XT PE
Lite-on DVD Rom (Bought a Lite on 16x DVD-RW from newegg but it was dead out of the box.)
OCZ 520w PSU
MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum motherboard
Versapoint wireless RF keyboard w/ built in mouse
Creative Soundblaster Audigy2 ZS (didnt install, still in unopened box)
MCE 2005
Bettercables DVI>HDMI cable
I paid about $2400 for all of it but I will sell it for $1850 shipped. The only thing I can tell you is that it was my first 'building a computer' experience' so the wiring isnt as clean as a professional job, but you could easily clean it up yourself. This is a good chance to get a good PC at a cheaper cost though. Thanks!
