my friend is planning on buying a computer and a HTiB so he doesn't have a lot of money for home theater.
i figure he could get the Kenwood 504 HTiB, since there are so many good reviews; can it get dolby digital from a computer by bypassing the sound card and going straight from DVD or will he need to get a fancy digital sound card?
any advice along these lines would be appreciated, including specific brands

could anyone recommend specific sound cards (w/5.1 output) and video cards (w/ s-video output) as well as other hardware needed to hook-up 5.1 speakers?
thanks

BILL--they are a little advanced for me in HTPC over there at AVS, although I did ask. Thanks

I use the Philips Acoustic Edge soundcard in 2 computers...it works well for me. It has SPDIF in/out for both DD and DTS plus it can send out a 5.1 decoded signal. This card can be had for significantly less than $100; even Best Buy has them for relatively cheap. Another popular choice is the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz card which can be had for around $70-$80.
For video cards, either an ATI Radeon or a Geforce card with TV-out will work fine.
