I guess I'm too middle-of-the-road to make any of the top or bottom lists. I probably WOULD be in the western haters group if I'd seen enough of them. I just stay away from them entirely.

13. American Beauty
14. Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover, The
16. Leaving Las Vegas
18. Y tu mamá también
19. Graduate, The

I know these movies contain elements of romance, even romance at the very heart of the story, but it's odd to think of them as "romance movies".

Jim,

I must admit your categories are pretty funny, and it's makes it all the more shocking how low you rated The Apartment. :)

How did I win this one? I've barely seen any Hitchcock movies.

Great job, Jim.

:D You must know I wasn't being entirely serious, Jim. And I've only really been interested in films since about 1999.

Great work on the poll and these results. Nice to make a couple of the other lists.

Here's a request: "That Man Has Fine Taste"/"What's That Guy Smoking?" awards - for each person's nomination list, average all the average scores given to the films on that list by everyone else. And, um, what about the Bottom 100 Films (of the 676)... :)

Yeah, I was hoping to do something like that myself before I decided it was too time-consuming. I've got a pretty good idea who the crack smoker award would go to.

Well I was leaning toward giving it a 6 but it ended up being a 5. I don't think that was a bad score, at least I didn't give it a 0. :)

Thanks for all your work Jim, real funny categories names! :emoji_thumbsup:

And it's good to learn that I am a silent and romantic movies lover, I thought I loved thrillers, horror, westerns and film noir :D Just don't tell my girlfriend about the romantic movies OK, it has some advantages to make it seem like a chore :)

Great job on the stats Jim—and I love your categorizations. :emoji_thumbsup:

John Wilson and George easily win the I Live in a Computer award.

I was surprised to discover that I was in the Romantic category and not in the music or silent ones. For me the small number of foreign, musical and silent films (as a percentage of the total) just meant the there was more pre-selection in these categories and therefore the overall scores should be higher.

Thanks Simon & Lew

Lew,

You scored very high with Foreign, Romance, Silents, Musicals & Drama. Middle of the road on most everything else except for Action/Adventure which you scored very low.

I might go back into the spreadsheet and create an Art-House film category. I think those numbers would be interesting to see. :)

Hooray! I finally distinguished myself in the voting enough to make a list (other than my stinginess with '10's). Since my cinematic tastes were formed in the 80's, I have no problem with this outcome. I'm just displeased that there were so many low votes and abstains for Broadcast News. :frowning:

And excellent work, Jim. :emoji_thumbsup: :emoji_thumbsup: :emoji_thumbsup:

Only in my dreams. :) Now this is a category I can relate to, as the 40's are probably my favorite film decade.

Again thanks for the compliments. This really is the fun part (& what I was aiming for) after the drudgery of compiling the stats.

I had a notion of doing a matches made in heaven/hell pairing but I wouldn't begin to know how to do it. I have to say that while I was compiling the data there was one pairing that stood out like a sore thumb.

I don't know if they were separated at birth or what but the dynamic duo of film trashing would have to be the pairing of George & his evil little sidekick John Wilson. :D I'm not sure which one is the Master & which the pupil learning the ways of the dark side but I wouldn't want to meet up with either in a darkened movie theater. :)
