I dont think this film is anything close to pornographic. Or gay. And I dont see the comparison to gay porn. Its not like the guys "are turned on" by seeing this. Just watch it. It's supposed to be humorous in a gross out way. And boy does it do that well.

This dvd is sweeeet! It's a damn funny movie, with decent extras and no bilingual cover for the Canadian version (because it doesn't have a French audio track).

I certainly think Jackass is funny, although when I ponder it at all, I kinda get nauseous. I hope that no one in that group gets seriously hurt, burned, or paralyzed, or something.
Wow, you're very wrong. If you've ever seen Bam Margera's CKY videos, or Steve-O's Dont Try This At Home videos, you'd find out they suffer much pain, and even broken bones.

Josh is right:

The steve-o vids are incredible, but the Camp Kill Yourself vids are waaaaay beyond any "Jackass" stunts.
They did the rental car thing about 3 years ago, and did other things beside sneaking up with a pair of clippers while others were sleeping (the hotel poop scene in iceland?)

Jackass is the best "Filmed" stunts, CKY and Steve-O are shakey-home-movie quality.

I've watched the show since it came out.

On opening night, I took 2 female friends who'd never seen Jackass.
They actually cried, they laughed so hard.
Actually, pretty sure I cried too.

And I'd agree, make sure you watch ALL the end credits :)

An interesting review. Even more interesting is the choice to review this DVD instead of a more deserving classic title.
Our policy is to load up special features on new releases like this and be highly selective with special features on the catalog titles. Sure, it's a bottom line issue
If Paramount wishes to appeal to the MTV generation with a release like this one, then so be it. As a lone individual I have no way to change this kind of corporate & retail thinking except with my wallet. And unfortunately my wallet is not fat enough to make any difference at all. I won't be buying this DVD despite the praise it has received here.

Here's hoping that if jackass becomes a big seller on home video that it will warrant a 3-disc special edition of the underrated "Private Parts" by the one and only - KING OF ALL MEDIA - Howard Stern.

Martin Blythe are you listening?

Howard has said on the air many times he wanted to put out a true special edition of his dvd for all his listeners and fans - which are like 20+ Million strong.................

paramount is losing out on a lot of ca$h here.......

I know Martin is reading this thread.

I implore you to permit Howard Stern to put
together the Special Edition of Private Parts
that he has been begging all of you to do these past
few years.

Since we all know the bottom line is profit, I
can assure you that the Howard Stern fan base is
so strong -- combined with the radio promotions
Howard will be doing from the very start of the
project -- that such a Special Edition is a
no-brainer!

Trust me, Martin, this will be a set worth doing!

I just saw this movie and I think there were literrally 2 skits that made me laugh a bit. I refused to see it at first, but on Ron's review I figured I'd give it a try.

Sorry Ron, still not a fan here.

Chris.

i certainly would never buy this movie but i have been able to watch it through the rental store i work at.

it was very funny, but agian many skits are very disgusting.not any replay value for me. i didnt want to see some of that stuff once.

i also would love a special ed of private parts. and yes i have heard howard , many times sya he would want to do it but the studio has no interest in it.

i'd buy it and many of my friends would too.

I'd pick up a copy of Private Parts if they came out with a special edition. I've been holding off buying the current one because of this. Don't let us down Paramount!!!!!!!!!

We can get Private Parts right now on DVD so put the Special Edition on the backburner & give me a 6 DVD Collection of his E show unedited!

Greg, having seen Jackass, I'd say your assessment is right. That it inadvertently forms a homoerotic, sadomasochistic relationship with its frat boy audience is the only thing about this 80 minute deterioration into Too Much For TV slovenliness that I found funny.

So this movie cost only $5M to make and raked in about $65M in theaters. Now there's the DVD... Yikes! I wonder if Chris Pontius still lives in his Toyota Tacoma (probably does).

Edit- About the homoeroticism in these kinds of movies.. That's always been a topic for some people. One of my female professors (who's a huge feminist btw) believes the reason football players pat each other on the butt is a form of homoeroticism. I think there's a big difference between being secure with your sexuality and being gay. (but that's a whole other subject :))

I own the barebones disc and I would absolutely buy a special edition of Private Parts the moment it was available.

I am a huge Jackass fan and this DVD is a no-brainer for me.
I think the "no-brainer" best describes the mentality of people who actually like this trailer-trash crap! Maybe we can go rent "The Hot Chick" and "The Waterboy" next and destroy what few brain cells remain!

Nice thread crap - what a useful post...
People who feel the need to deride others based on nothing more than the movies they enjoy generally feel insecure about their own intelligence. The post was obviously designed to make himself feel better about his own insecurities by using the oldest and easiest method in existence--tearing down others. Think about it, why else would he post something like that? It's sad, really.

I'm on a well-deserved vacation this week, so I'll be picking up and enjoying my copy shortly! :)
